    Can you take the lid off altogether when she is playing, then put it back on when the toys are tidied up?

    If it is the one that's been linked to, then going off the enlarged picture it looks to me fairly obvious that it slides 'forwards' and not 'sideways'. You can see two grooves on the long side where the runners are. Also, it's a fairly solid looking top and common sense would tell you it'd be dangerous to have it sliding sideways - it'd make the box really unstable, either because it'd tip it or the lid would be too heavy to support itself when it's slid out fully. Dangerous for little feet/fingers/heads that got underneath it.
  • er? unfortunately the item is very much definately "fit for purpose".

    You don't have reasonable grounds to complain.

    As the above posters suggest, put it in a different place in the room.
