Ikea, storage box

I recently bought a malm storage box from the ikea website, my dad built it for me yesterday and I was shocked to see the "sliding lid" came forward, not sideways. This means my daughter has to lean over the lid to get in the box. If the website had shown a picture of the opened lid, I wouldn't have bought the box. I emailed their Customer services "Chat" and spoke to a lady who said they refused to take it back as it had been built. This has really got my back up now, where do I stand. It is sold in the bedroom range of furniture, and as a storage box...

can it not slide backwards?0

If it's not to sit against a wall, then turn it the other way round. Then she won't have to lean over the lid.
Did you not try the display model in store, or read the instructions before your dad assembled it?0 -
She'll have to lean over the lid to get stuff in or out the box. It can't slide back as its against a wall. Its ideal as a coffee table for putting magazines in.Visit beautiful Mid Wales:j0

I bought it off the website. My nearest Ikea is 70 miles away, so no I had not seen it. Dad built it while I had the kids out of the way. I'm narked because it didn't show which way it slid, I assumed it was sideways...Visit beautiful Mid Wales:j0

Surely the lid slides in the direction you point it?
It slides 'forward' when its being slid away from whatever is behind it, but if its turned sideways surely it then slides across meaning its easy to get things in and out of?
If it cant be put the other way around (I assume all four sides look the same) then where did you expect it to slide to?
ETA I thought it would be a square box, but is this the one http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20106492 ?
In which case I would have expected it to slide forward since the longer the distance it slides the greater the stress on the runners and the more likely it is to break. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

No its not square, its a rectangle, thats why it goes against the wall. I didn't think of the logic of weight on runners. I'm just really bugged by this, I know it was only £39 but I feel they should have said on the website, and the lady agreed with that!Visit beautiful Mid Wales:j0

If you bought it from the internet you're covered under the distance selling regs and have 7 days to reject the item.0
