Vodafone Complaint - Any Advice?

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any advice for an unhappy Vodafone customer please?
I am 12 months into an 18 month contract and to be honest my phone has never really been any good. It's been away to be fixed once and came back exactly the same. It's worse than ever so I decided I really need to do something about it again.
Basically I'm lucky to get a signal, if I do manage to connect to someone they normally can't hear me or the signal drops, often it will look like it has a signal but when I go to use it I get a message saying there is no network signal or invalid sim etc etc. It often freezes and you have to take the battery out and/or it turns itself off and normally when it does this the red light on the back comes on . Also texts messages and voicemails have been on ocassion delayed for around 2 days.
I phoned to ask what the lowest tarrif was and was told £20 per month and that it had to go down a package at the time as I was intending just to keep it running at a minimum and cancel in December and go and get a new contract somewhere else but to me £20 a month for nothing is a bit much!
When I emailed to complain all they are doing is asking me to send it away again to get it fixed but I know in my heart of hearts that it's not going to come back fixed this time either! I also object to being without a phone while they try to fix it again.
I'm getting really frustrated as I don't feel that I'm getting what I pay for and at the minute certainly won't be keeping my business with Vodafone. Anyone got any thoughts or ideas on how to get in touch with someone who is able to assist?
Thanks
Lolly

I'm not sure what others would do, but I was in a similar position with Three.
I complied with everything they said, had it repaired 3 times, same problems.
If you comply with whatever they say - ie send it off a few more times, show them that you're willing to cooperate, but still don't get a result, they'll be more accommodating re cancelling the contract, as you've done all they could suggest.
I wasn't getting signal when I moved back home from uni, and I complained numerous times, had the phone sent off 3 times (at the expense of three luckily), and messed around with all the settings, and eventually they ran out of ideas, so I suggested they cancelled my contract. They did say to do that would require a cancellation fee, and suggested I upgrade my handset instead to see if it solved the problems, but with a bit more complaining, taking the matter to head office, I managed to get the contract cancelled 3 months into an 18 monther without any fees.
Hope that helps somewhat
