Its entirely up to you, but there actually weeds and spread like wildfire! We had a large forest of them last year, and managed to get rid of them, but alas even now there popping up between the flowers as weeds and are a nightmare to kill. Be prepared for them to take over your garden! lol

ps I have been collecting too, isn't there a fantastic crop of fruit this year. :j

YES there are loads, and around here they were ready really early! Have 2 bags in freezer from July already.

I might stick to picking them elsewhere then, or maybe put some in the soil down the side of the outside of the house so limited...........and not in my garden ;) lol - so how do i do it???? just dig a bit up?

Yes there in abundance, I have made two crumbles and my labrador loves them lol when we go for walks.

Thats a very good idea, otherwise you will suddenly find you have Jack climbing the bean stalk in your garden next year lol or rather the bramble bush haha.

I would imagine if you just dug one up and planted it would take.

Let me know how you get on!

I don't think that a cutting would take too readily. You could simply use some of the seeds out of the fruit. Dry tem for a week or two and then plants them; they should grow.

Oh but that were true! I know from bitter experience that the slightest 'cutting' can and does take! all it takes is to drop a cutting when you're clearing it and you have a new plant  If you do plant some, by seed or cutting or whatever, can I suggest that you sink a pot or other barrier into the ground, as part of the problem with wild blackberries is that they send out runners underground that can and do pop out at will - 20 or 30 feet from the parent on occasion - then establish themselves there, becoming hell to get rid of. Also make sure you prune it before it 'hits the ground' as it were.

Yes i have to agree with you regarding the cuttings. The damn things are still growing through the flowers and shrubs even though I put weed killer down initially! lol

Oh that's interesting. I didn't know that they would root so readily.

If you have 100's near you, why do you want one in the garden? Waste of space, grow something you can't get in the wild, a hybrid blackberry. Tayberry, bosenberry, loganberry, or raspberries etc

Lovely crop of blackberries this year.

Here's a quick recipe for a sweet, full-bodied blackberry wine:

Dissolve a 1 kilo bag of sugar in a pan of water, and allow to cool. Pick about 3lb or 4lb of blackberries, and wash them. Crush berries with a wooden spoon (I have a plastic potato masher set aside just for this job), and pour the juice into a demi-john. Add the cooled sugar solution, 1 tsp yeast, and top up with tap water, remembering to leave a space at the top for fermentation. Stick on an airlock and leave in a dark, warm place for 4-5 months.

Voila! 6 bottles of wine for the price of a bag of sugar and teaspoon of yeast.
Saved over £20K in 20 years by brewing my own booze.
Qmee surveys total £250 since November 2018

With 3 children under 5 i am very very interested in cheap wine! Already have sugar and yeast and blackberries so what is a demi-john!!!!!!!!!!! I need to make this lol - TODAY - how long till it is ready to drink???

PS 'if i have 100's why do i want in my garden' I AM LAZY LOL! I want to pick them in my pj's with a coffee! Bit difficult when i am in the street ;) - although i do have a nice long stretch of soil down the side of my house which i am going to manure and prep (free chicken manure from my garden) - ready for the cuttings i have taken!
