Spending my whole life mending punctures...

... on my son's 16" bike.

He can't seem to go more than a day without getting a puncture and it's driving me round the bend! The cause of these punctures are generally thorns, i have no idea how he manages them so often as i don't even know where said thorn bushes are, but he does!

So seemingly telling him to avoid certain areas doesn't work as he'll find some stray glass or thorns ANYWHERE! He's the only kid round here who gets them so often

So... i'm useless at mending punctures, and it's such a hassle - i've bought a few spare inner tubes but some of them have that many punctures i've given up on them and thrown them out. At £5 a tube it's not too bad but i refuse to buy anymore!

So, after some googling i discovered that you can get tyre sealant gels, or something - has anyone tried these, and how did you find them, not totally sure how they work - do you squirt it into the inner tube and it coats it or something?

Otherwise, any better ideas, that are cheaper?!

When I was a teenager my parents fitted both mine and my brothers bikes with solid rubber tyres, problem solved, I have no idea if you can still buy them though.

When I was 16 I fixed my own punctures, and everything else that went wrong with my bike.

Congratulations. However, since we don't know the age of the OP's son, perhaps this might help.

There are a number of products including self-healing inner tubes, and anti-puncture shields. Perhaps something there may be of some use?

Either that or wait for tomstickland to come along and help. I'm sure he rides bikes. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

£16.95!! They're way out of my price range i'm afraid! Especially as he'll grow out of the bike in a year or so.

I first thought slime!! but im not sure if they still do it.
I used this stuff when i raced downhill an it was excellent, it was as the name suggests a green slimey goo which you put in the tyre an when you got a puncture it sealed itself, surly there must still be a similar product on the market.

wouldn't have thought 16 quid would have bought may tubes & repair kits and that's before you factor in time, hassle and bruised fingers

Sounds like a bargain to me

    Hia,
We used slime on ours and to be honest is pretty good , especially with the smaller punctures.

We also used in our kids off road buggy after getting 3 punctures in the space of two weeks and have not had any since then (9 months).

Halfords sell it (green slime) but you can find it cheaper using the ebay sellers.
