Did the assistant in H Samuel measure your finger with a ring sizer? That would give a fair idea of what the size should be. You don't want the ring to be so loose that it falls off but you don't want it to be too tight either.

She measured my right hand, as my left hand ring finger was swollen. She said a J was about right for the right, so I would only need to go up to an I 1/2 as my right hand finger should be bigger.

So, now it's an I1/2 and I can get it on and off my right hand easier than my left. To get it off the left, I have to run it under cold water.

I just want a ring that fits!

hmm i guess you'll just have to have it resized again. I dont quite understand why you took it into the shop while the finger you want to wear it on was swollen so had to guess the size in the first place?

Anyway, you'll probably have to pay to have it resized now i should think?

Well, I just wanted it taken up a size, which would def. fit, so didn't think it mattered that it was swollen, but the lady convinced me that it just needed to go up just half a size. I just wanted to get it sorted so I wasn;t without my ring for too long.

Thankfully my fiance got insurance, which covers resizing costs, but it's more the going two weeks without the ring. I got very odd looks when trying on wedding dresses without it the other day - the lady told me not to snag the dress on the ring, and I had to explain that, ummm, I don't have one at the moment!

Do you wanna know a funny story? No, well tough! :rotfl:

My OH was preparing to buy an engagement ring (just this time last month) and I wear a ring on the third finger of my right hand. He snaffled this one night after I'd taken it off and tried to measure it.....the only thing he could find that would fit inside it was the top of a toothpaste tube.....so he took that into the Jewellers in Birmingham's Bull Ring  They now know him as "the toothpaste man".

Anyhow, we were shopping elsewhere one evening and he dragged me into the jewellers and asked the young assistant to measure my finger - she asked which one and looked all excited when he said 'wedding finger for an engagement ring'. So she measured and told him the size (2 sizes smaller than my other ring!), then I turned to him and said 'you'll HAVE to ask me now!' - the assistants face was a picture - she thought he'd done so already!
Anyway, I went off to do some shopping and he made an excuse to go into the gadget shop (as men do!) and frantically phoned the Bull Ring shop to tell them the size was wrong! :rotfl:

As it turned out they'd 'melted' the ring to resize it - and melted the hallmark out in the process, so I'm without it for a fortnight now while they re-do it!

The toothpaste bit made me laugh!

Jellie bean have you been wearing the ring on your left finger before? If not then leave it on the correct finger for at least 48hrs before going for resizing again

I had a similar problem with mine the first night my finger swelled in the night and i freaked out cos i couldn't take it of - it tooks lots of cold water and soap!!

I looked on the internet and found a few places telling you to wait a few days - I honesty though it was daft - but lo and behod, the second day it fit perfectly!

Your finger takes a while to get used to the ring

p.s. it doesn't fit on my right hand as that is bigger, but on the run up to the wedding i'm going to wear it on that side to see if i can do the same thing with my right hand so i can have a bear left for the wedding ring

Thanks. I'd been wearing it for a couple of weeks and noticed that it was getting increasingly difficult to get off. So off I went to get it resized. I guess my finger could have become out of practice, as it were, when I wasn't wearing it this week. I'll give it a couple of days and if it's still difficult to get off on Monday, I'll head back to my friends at H Samuel!

Of course you have muscles in your hands, how else would you move your fingers?!

I think the shop lady got it wrong, im sure my writing hand fingers are bigger than my left hand!
As I said I wasn't an expert, I thought it may have been mostly tendons in your hands controlled by muscles in your arms, so sorry.:o
