Yes! Your whistle commands are exactly the same as ex used, i know he uses the 3 short whistles for 'come' as he did it with his last springer, i just don't know if this one responded to it.

It doesn't bother me at all that she runs off to other dogs -very rarely is a dog aggressive for no reason, so i trust her to judge whether the dog will snap her or not, and if it does then she will hopefully learn for next time! However it's other owners that are the problem, some people get so tetchy when your dog runs to greet theirs, and i always call her back but sometimes the dogs run off and play. Lots of people are nice and will be glad of the company for their dog, but most are just arsey and give you evil glares when i'm calling my dog back and she's having too much fun to listen :rotfl:

Some owners make their dog heel throughout the whole walk but i prefer to let her run around and use her energy

Yes! :D If you can be bothered, i've got a full album of her, here

    http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/maggiepooch/

I'm sorry but of course some owner's get tetchy! I'm sure like me they really don't want their Dog to bite the one running up to it, also what about if the dog is on the lead due to being old/ill/injured? Your dog could cause more injury!
Plus it's against the DDA to have dogs off lead running up to others, our dog warden has given warnings to many people, your dog MUST be under control or on a lead!
Would you be happy if she ran up to mine (Even tho i'd be asking you to call her back) & mine killed her? Or badly hurt her & you had vet bills of hundreds? And nope, I wouldn't be responsible in the eyes of the law as mine is on lead & under control!
Sorry, I don't mean to get at you but you really must learn how serious it is to let yours run up to an on lead dog, many won't just snap but will actually really hurt her! Muzzling makes the on lead Dog more aggressive & also it then can't fight or flight! Plus there's no need to muzzle as no dogs should be out of control & allowed to approach
Also (Sorry!) what if she runs up to a person scared of Dogs? Your dog only has to put someone in fear of being hurt & that's it. Doesn't matter what breed/size she is or if she bites, fact is she'd be out of control & making someone fear being hurt, if she ran up to my Stepdad who's terrified of Dogs she'd maybe be kicked which he'd hate to do but he will for self defence!

    Lovely pics tho!

Sorry i think my comment made it sound like i let her do it, and i don't. But there are odd occasions when she runs off ignoring me and is already rolling round on the floor at other dogs feet by the time i get there, which is one of the reasons i'd asked here for advice.

But what i meant was there are times, if the other owers okay it (either by greeting her or acknowledging me), that i will let her play with the other dogs. But when she runs up to a dog she always lies on her back and lets that dog sniff her, so i can't see why many owners should be tetchy, especially when they can see i'm doing my best to get her back over.

Sometimes the owner is nowhere in sight, and the 2 dogs will be running around a huge field having fun, and then the owner comes and gives me a stony look - well where were you?!

But as i said, if i see dogs on leads i always put her back onto her lead.

She didn't do anything like this with my ex, but obviously her master has gone now so it's hard for me to assert myself it's as if i have a new dog and i've never owned a dog before, only this one with my ex and he's very experienced.

To be honest, why would you want to keep a dog that would kill another dog for running over to it? I mean, fair enough if my dog appeared threatening towards your dog, but if my dog ran over to yours, laid on her back all submissive, and yours killed her, whether on a lead or not then your dog is not fit to be out in public.

Also my ex taught her not to run up to people, and rarely she does it with me, but obviously i'm finding her harder to discipline not being the master. If she disobeyed me, and ran to someone i don't mind if they kick her!! Well okay, kicking the crap out of her no, but a warning nudge/push away type of thing is fine and i'd be very apologetic to them and thank them for dealing with it!

I'm not saying she would kill another, but if it's alot smaller than her it's possible of course. I'd want to have her as she's the best Dog i've ever known! A Rescue, soon to be a Pets as Therapy Dog & perfect in every way except she doesn't like other Dogs, why idk, but she's scared of them & we will be seeing a behaviourist about it.

I have no need to not keep her as I never let her off lead & don't own other Dogs or have any come to stay, should she be PTS just because sometimes others let their Dogs come up to her? (Bearing in mind dog owners shouldn't let theirs run up to her anyway & also i'd've told them she doesn't like other dogs & asked them to call theirs back in plenty of time & also their dog can see by her body language she's aggressive)

Good/responsible dog owners stick theirs back on a lead when approaching an on lead dog or theirs will ignore others anyway, so it's only the irresponsible ones that let theirs approach.

If you had say a spider run towards you & you're terrified but can't get away, I bet you'd kill it or hurt it? Well, my dog is a dog, she doesn't know not to attack another, she can't run away & is terrified, what else can she do? Of course she wouldn't be intending to kill another, but she'd defend herself, she's scared.

The one dog that did run up & fight her actually really hurt her & she didn't put a mark on him, how is that right?

I can't understand the owner having issues if theirs is off lead, I know I wouldn't! Also, like you say if mine ever got on with a dog in particular & the owner had asked if mine's ok & can theirs play then that's fine too! My neighbour has a dog same age/colour/breed & gender as mine & she's fine sitting close by it, she just doesn't like them in her space.

It's good you put her back on lead when you see on lead ones, but i'm sure she'll train fast they seem intelligent dogs, a guy near us has two & when walking & going by us he just puts his hand up & both stop & don't come by him, it's great to see!

She looks lovely you have some great pics

Yeah i'd never want to hurt a dog, and never would touch it if I could help it, I sometimes just pick mine up cause then she's out the way & luckily enough she's small enough to! She'll soon get used to things, can the ex come & show you what he did with her?

Thanks for not taking offence at what i said, i had worried it was going to turn into a debate and i don't like it hehe.

I don't trust dogs really, never have as i know some can be unpredictable, and i bear this in mind when out with mine, in the same way i've taught my son not to approach unknown dogs.

One of my fears with mine was that she'd run up to a young kid and knock it over, but she's getting better at not greeting people and we take her out every day in a huge park where some areas are busy. On a good day i can get her to walk with me, without being on a lead - as we pass a busy area but i don't trust her not to get excited and run off so 99% will put her straight on the lead.

I hung her lead up last night and it's fallen into her bed so she's chewed some of it, little scrote! :D

Am going to take her out in a bit so hopefully not too stressful re. the pulling, i'm going to do as Mrs Carney said today with the lead, and am referring back to Paws' post for general training.

Yeah I don't like debates either but it can be hard to not offend when online & you can't tell how it's meant! I wasn't offended & didn't mean any offence, just some people genuinely don't realise if their Dog is a happy friendly one! I'm sure she'll be doing great very soon! I just sponsored 3 dogs trust spaniels lol if I can't own one I shall sponser!

A choker chain (£1.59 from Wilkinsons) cured our Labs pulling within a week or so and he now walks calmly without needing it on.

Some say it's cruel but so is having your arm pulled out of your socket
