As several people have said, there is a maximum duration for which they are allowed to ring, 20 or 30 mins? So it needs to be adjusted or modified and you need to make this point 'forcefully' to your neighbours when they return.
Apart from the considerable disturbance factor, it's pointless setting it to more than 5 minutes anyway. If there is a genuine burglar, they'll be long gone after that time-they don't generally hang about making themselves cups of tea when the alarm is sounding. Did I read somewhere that the average burglary takes less than two minutes?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I'm pleased to report that I sucessfully stopped the bell from ringing - it was quite straight forward once I drilled off the rusted screw holding the box in place .

About half an hour later their parents turned up which then meant I had to get my blooming ladders out again and rewire it because they couldnt turn the alarm off properly otherwise - all fun and games.

Still at least it's all sorted now and we can sleep peacefully tonight :j
and on top of that, I'm quite popular with the neighbours too:j

It was rather amusing in the end as I don't rememnber the last time so many of our neighbours got together at one time - we could have had a street party, so maybe some good has come out of the situation:T

macman, I will certainly convey the information you've given, of course in a polite and friendly manner ;).

    Time for a

I guess its always worth having a friend with a shotgun.. can solve the problem in a split second (I mean the box not the neighbour  of course)

We have no idea why our electricity trips off (sometimes when we are on holiday). It means the freezer goes down and the alarm trips. We have overhead cables but SWALEC can't find any problems. It doesn't trip the individual zones but the main trip switch! So we are afraid of using the alarm when we go away. We want some way of keeping our alarm on but don't - the lights flash on the boxes so we hope this is enough.

Just wish there was some way of getting the trip to reset without involving any other people.

LOL. And I wonder what the 'small administrative charge' is. £25?

It would have to be a very old alarm & remarkably well looked after to not have a timer in because I can remember that they had to have timers in 20 years ago. :D

I'll try and find out and let you know - it could be close to 20 years old. We've been here about that time so it's quite possible.
