Anybody know anything about selling books?

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place but here goes......the light has finally dawned on OH that if he wants to buy a camera he needs to fund it. So we have about 6 crates of books to sell. I have tried a few places but no response. Any ideas please?

You could try second hand book dealers or you can sell through amazon marketplace as an individual seller. If the books are mass market paperbacks though it may be more effort than it's worth.

Have a look on amazon marketplace to see if you have any that are worth putting on there. Some sell for 1p and so aren't worth it (generally mass market paperbacks as jonty12 says), but I've sold textbooks on there for £15+.

Any that aren't worth putting on Amazon you could sell at a carboot, you won't make a fortune but if you have loads you could probably make a little bit towards the camera fund.

Somewhere on this site there is a guide to selling books on Amazon. It might be in Up Your Income?

I sold a huge amount of paperbacks and hardbacks about three years ago to a carboot trader who advertised under the 'wanted' section in the local free add paper. I only got 50p each for the paperbacks.

Green Metropolis is also worth a look as you get £3.00/book I think.
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75
  • I agree with xpender. Greenmetropolis is where I've sold a lot of my books, you get £3 a book but must pay postage out of that, so be careful on the weight. You can specify a surcharge if it is a heavy/oversized book.

Otherwise why not carboot the lot? Or somewhere like Vivastreet (free! advertising of stuff you want to sell - go via rpoints/cashbackkings ;)) - and put the lot up as a joblot to go together. Buyer collects, no postage and no fees - plus Rpoints/CBK pay you to advertise!

thanks. They aren't paper backs but would only appeal to someone with those particular interests e.g. travelling round small towns in America, buying an olive farm in Spain.
I'll probably be shot now but I think it's a bloke thing!;)

Could I just hijack this one for a quickie? I've got heaps of books too - I'd like to give mine to a charity. Anyone know a charity that would be prepared to collect them (fiction/novels etc etc)? Many thanks..(& sorry for the hijack)..

Depending on where you live, Oxfam have "book only" shops in some large towns and if you have quite a lot may have a volunteer willing to collect. May be worth a phone call?

In my area, the local Lions Club have been running second hand book sales in various locations, shopping centres etc for charity for years. Their contact details should be available from the local library , might be worth enquiring!
