Claim been refused - help!

I went through this once but eventually found my diamond bracelet just before the claim went through. I really dont know whether it would have been refused or not but i was down to the jewellers next day with all my jewellry for a valuation and a photograph of me wearing my jools (not all at the same time) Apparently just a picture of the jewellry isnt enough. you have to be actually wearing it !!!! to help prove ownership.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yes, have pictures. I'll see what they say when I call again. I can but try!
Have some other bits of diamond jewellery (nothing like my engagement ring though) so will definitely get them valued and take pics.0 -
Won't they pay you up to the single article limit?0

I think you may have a battle on your hands with the insurance company. The diamond fell out of my engagement ring appx 4 years ago and I called Barclays to see if I could claim and this is the response i got:
If you have lost the diamond in your own home then technically you cannot loose something in your own home so you are not covered.
AND
If you lost the diamond outside of your home you are not covered on your contents insurance.
So basically they told me that the only way I could claim would be if it had been stolen and I had a crime number for the theft!!
In my experiance insurance companies should wear a black and white stripey suit with a ball and chain attached to their ankles.
I cant offer any advice but if it was me I would argue the point and say you accept you cant be paid for its current value (because you dont know what it was worth) but ask why they wont pay you anything at all????? Saying you can have nothing is like saying you never had a ring to lose!0 -
The reason they told you this Just mommy is because you did not have cover for items away from the home0

They always have a 'get out' clause,or hidden extras that you were supposed to know you needed even though it was never offered to you! if its not one thing its another!! Like when they try and get out of paying you because you cant provide proof of purchase. How many people keep receipts for absolutely everything????0

sorry to bump and i'll probably get shouted down but i see this alot as i work in insurance... i know its square but READ YOUR POLICY DOCS, its all in there, no one is hiding anything.
I know in our policy booklets it states in the event of a claim you must produce a valuation done in the last 2 years, ie. if you have items of value you have to get them valued pretty frequently.
I know it doesnt help you at the moment, but it may just be a hard lesson learnt and make sure you read and understand everything in future!0 -
Just Mommy.... same applies, if you had have read the cover you wouldnt have been in that position.
you wouldnt buy a TV and then complain when it came there wasn't a DVD player with it... whats on the box is what you get, its your responsibility to make sure the cover you buy suits your needs.0 -
What about the proof of purchase clause then? do you have receipts for everything you buy?? Brodiebobs??
What about things purchased from an exhibition show perhaps?? Or if your freezer breaks down, do you have to keep all your Asda receipts and tick off the food you've eaten?
Its unreasonable to expect everone to read and digest the million page booklet called 'Terms and Conditions' because differant rules apply to differant items. As quoted by the woman at Barclays ' its all about values, we will replace any item under £500 without proof of purchase'0
