                    Hello all
This is my first post (been visiting the forums for a long time though!) - wondered if anyone can help?
I took out contents insurance - as I do every year and have NEVER claimed - but this year we had some major decorating work done and my engagement ring went missing at some point.
I totally trust the decorators (they're friends too) but cannot find the ring anywhere. The house was in a state so when I couldn't find it immediately I assumed it would be in the house somewhere.
However, 6 months on, house back to normal, still no sign.
So I called the insurance co. They said it wasn't covered because it wasn't listed. I said I hadn't listed it because it was £1500 (still have receipt from 10 yrs ago) and their policy states "items over £1500 have to be listed". And round and round we went.
Can anyone help me?

It should have been listed.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

If it was bought for £1500 10 years ago and it's a diamond, it's worth more now. Sorry.
My insurance policy only accepts the receipt for jewellery items for 2 years after purchase. after that you need a valuation for insurance.Kavanne

OK. I get that you're not trying to make me feel better. But "should have been..." - not helpful to me now.
Can anyone else help me with what I do now? Please?!
(Thanks to Kavanne for message btw).0

 Trip to a jewellers?
I can't see you winning this. As kavanne has pointed out, a ten year old receipt won't be valid as a valuation.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Do you have any photographs of yourself wearing the ring.
This is for proof of ownership.
Your ring was bought for £1500 but they are saying items 'over' £1500 so it still should be insured for the £1500 surely as this is not 'over' £1500. If you had a valuation done say last year the valuation would probably have been at double the price so they are saving a packet if they give you £1500 less any excess of course.
Is there an appeal process?make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0

As pointed out above the receipt won't be sufficient for valuation as it's 10 years old.Your ring was bought for £1500 but they are saying items 'over' £1500 so it still should be insured for the £1500 surely as this is not 'over' £1500Kavanne

But it's not worth £1500 now! One of my diamond rings cost £1300 about 5 years ago - it's latest valuation is £5500!
It's the replacement value that the insurers are interested in and they're unlikely to be able to replace the ring for £1500.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Ok, thank you. I really didn't think I'd done anything wrong though, as their policy had said "items over £1500 needed to be covered individually" (and it wasn't) I had expected it to be covered.
Am still angry at the insurance co but probably better to let that go and be happy!
OMG have just read iamana1ias's reply on how much their ring is now worth...0

Have you ever read any of the policy documents? Have you seen the clauses about valuation?I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
