    Hi kittypimms,

This thread has some advice that may help:

Jam jars that smell of pickles...

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

Milton fluid and water solves it...in the baby section. Own brand works just as well.

I would try steradent but in past experience it's near impossible. It's the vinegar smell, so hard to shift.

A quick bit of Google research came up with this from our ex-colonial frugal cousins ...

The ones about using lemon rind or fat sound promising.

some good suggestions there, have tryed so far sprinking bicarb but only left it for an hour or so. Bleach, and throwing in machine with my washing. Will have a go at some today. What is a chlorine tablet?
  • try water in a pyrex dish, lemon juice and chuck the lemon in there too, boil the kettle and just let them sit for a few hours. lemons are brilliant for getting the smells out. I used it when I saved some pasta sauce jars as I wanted to make some jam's and I couldn't get the smell out so used a lemon. x

It's near on impossible which is why they recommend you don't put HM jam in them but make chutney and put that in them instead...
