Thanks for that "clue" - looks like I need to make it plain in my letter that the meter readings were actual ones, rather than estimated ones then.0

POSTSCRIPT
I've had to do a fair bit of "chasing up" to get this sorted out:mad: - but several hours of my time lost later - I've got this resolved.
- I never did get rung back by Firm 2 as promised (ie Scottish Power)
- The email I sent Firm 2 via their website never did get through to them
- Subsequent phonecall back to Firm 2 produced an initial result of "nothing to do with us that this has happened". Some degree of "persistence" later - they admitted that this was down to some automatic thing or other that was done by their computer sending through a fresh reading to Firm 1 (thanks to posters here - as I at least had a sorta idea what had happened to cause this bill by Firm 1).
It all got a bit "technical" for me at that point as to what exactly Scottish Power's computer had "been up to" - but they admitted it shouldnt have done this and agreed to send a letter to Firm 1 saying that there had been a mistake and I dont owe them any money/so they must cancel their bill to me.
How many bets that S.P. doesnt do this very promptly - and I get a red letter bill from Firm 1 and have to make a phonecall explaining?
Anyways - hours wasted later:mad:..and that bill isnt due/wont be payable after all. I sure wish I could claim a decent hourly rate for all the wasted time having to do things like this......
Thanks again for your help to all who posted.0
