Get rid of clover
Comments
-
Clover is a member of the Legume family and thus actually stores nitrogen in the roots that later is given up and used by the grass to make it greener. Accept clover in the lawn and save money on both feed and weed.
Moss occurs if the lawn is shady, badly compacted, damp or too short. Save money again by aerating with a fork if badly compacted or too damp. Put sand into the holes to allow the ground to continue to breath0 -

Lawn weedkillers have been pretty ineffective and no matter how many times the borders are turned over the clover and moss just keeps returning. ???
Did you use one specifically for clover? I have used one before which worked a treat and only killed the clover not the lawn. I will post what it is tomorrow as it is in the shed and I am not going out there in the dark as I am too scared:DThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Guys when I moved house in Feb I noticed our small lawn at the front slightly sloped had a very large clover growing, never seen clover like that it was frilly leaved and large plant grow about 4-5 inches in height. There was also small clover plants growing nearby and when I dug them out I found small nodes in there, I also found some clover in back garden which was even bigger and it was really thick nodes some diameter of a 10p, managed to dig that out.
Anyhow I tried to get as much out as possible in the lawn it effects approximately 2 sq yards. I had a feeling it might come back, anyhow I sowed some new grass seed 2 weeks back but doesnt seem to have taken yet as I can see some seed on top of the lawn. I did try and keep it dampish, lawn front garden seems very dry all time.
I suspect grass may not take and as I got some lawn feed/killer it says it kills clover and have to be careful how I use it near other plants
Whats best approach? would it be better to get some turf and dig out the bad parts, I am unsure f I do that whether to still use the feed/killer.
Thanks for help0 -
Hiya Dustykitten
Please go in the shed and find us the name of that product.
As my garden has a little clover in it also and I'd like to make sure it
doesn't take over the whole of the lawn.
Thanks

Clover is becoming rare and is precious stuff. Are you sure you're not seeing another trefoil and mistaking it for clover?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

I gave up trying to get rid of clover from my lawn when I noticed that where the clover was growing was such a better green than the rest of the lawn. So I just leave it to spread now.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Clover is often included in grass seed mixes these days for keeping lawns green as the grass dies back in these dry, drought conditions!!!! Clover spreads by runners and raking before cutting your grass will raise them and allow them to be cut to prevent/reduce its spread over your lawn. A generous application of lawn sand a couple of times a year will also help deter clover because of its acidic nature - clove prefers alkaline conditions. Of course you could use a systemic weedkiller - a few applications may be required - and remember there will be plenty of dormant seeds around!!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

Hows the clover problem?
Got some in our lawn and it's proving a nightmare to get rid of, even using weedkillers.0 -
Hi I got some stuff called weed and feed I think thats what its called it comes in 5 sachets, I got it from Wilkos for about £4
It seemed to kill clover for a while, I didnt repeat the process tbh and should have, the clover can still be find it odd place and I just keep picking it off, it really could do with another application but the lawn is much better now, although it does get very dry as its on a slight slope and soil hasnt got much moisture retention.
Very pleased with my front garden, its one of the best in the street of about 30 houses now.0
