Anyone Recently Had a Baby Boy?

My younger brother's wife has just had their first baby - a boy. Im so chuffed (my daughters are 19 and 21) that there is a baby in the family again.
I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has recently had a baby boy (or possibly a girl). My question is:
What was the best/nicest gift you received from anyone?
I would like to get something cute and blue for the baby (sleepsuit etc) but i would also like to get something for mum too. I myself really appreciated it after giving birth when someone bought me a present and not just for the new baby.
Is there a gift for the baby that you found really useful and perhaps hadn't thought of?
Would you yourself like a gift of body lotions or alcohol? (After all, most mums haven't really drunk much for 9 months)
Any ideas appreciated.

Firstlu CONGRATS on being an aunty

My little boy is 7 weeks old, and the realy useful things are the ones she will have bought already. If you are buying clothes, ask her what size she wants and also as obvious as it sounds, buy season appropriate for the age you are buying !!!
The most unusual gift I got was a studio sitting for a portrait. Now I know you get the pixi foto one with bounty, but this is in a professional studio with more time to spend and I am going to get a nice one of both my kids together, but am waiting till Dylan can sit up a bit first.
Or how about his 1st bear, personalised from somewhere like Studio ??
You could however go with a useful gift instead !! A boots voucher to pay for nappies, milk if she is formula feeding as it is very expensive, or a play mat / activity gym that will be used a lot !!!
If she is breastfeeding, then I wouldnt buy alcohol, as even though she could have a drink, she might not want one !! If she likes smellies then def get her some of thise, I got a gift voucher and a massage paid for which was the best gift EVER !!!
Hope this helped a bit

I was given this mother and baby photoshoot from my workmates. I havent been on it yet (trying to lose the baby weight a bit first) but I am really looking forward to it. Perhaps you could go with her (to mind the little one whilst mum is being pampered) and make a day of it with lunch etc.

The best (most useful) gift that I ever got from anyone was a set of stacking cups from ELC.
I think they cost about £6 and all my children have loved playing with them. We've now had them for 7 years. First the children used them as babies for bashing together, then building up and knocking over when they were a bit older, then they played with them in the sand pit, they used to use them with spoons to pretend to mix things and now they play with them in the bath every night and they look as good as they always did (the ELC ones have cut outs in the bottom of the cups so you can use them for pouring). They have to be the best invested toy in my entire house (and trust me, I've got a lot of toys).
The nicest thing that anyone bought me was a snowsuit with little bunny ears on. My little one looked so cute in it."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

As for something for a new Mum - any nice shampoo/conditioner is a nice idea as your hair all starts falling out after the birth and it can reap havock on your self confidence......one of those things that no-one ever lets you know until it starts happening!
My personal favourite is always Tigi Fashionista as it smells divine."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Babysitting vouchers!! HaHaHa Depending on how much you wanted to spend.....I got a Doomoo (beanbag style seat/nest for newborn til age 6 ) in baby blue and it's sooo cute and gorgeous and I love it, about £80 though...If Life Deals You a Lemon - Make Lemonade!! :j0

My brother got me a huge box of chocolates, it was the only present for me that I got. It lasted till LO was 2 months old, and I didn't let anyone else have a single one.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

Two months?
Would have lasted less than 24 hours anywhere near me! :EasterBun"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I always longed for anything forbidden whilst pregnant, so a hamper that contained items such as alcohol, pate, soft cheese (brie) I would have loved.
This poem sums up my own son. If you fancied either having it put in a frame or just printing it onto nice paper, or there are other boy ones,I just googled 'poems about boys'
What is a Boy?
Between the innocence of babyhood and the dignity of manhood,
we find a delightful creature of a boy.
Boys come in assorted sizes, weights and colors.
But all boys have the same creed: to enjoy every second of
every minute of every day and to protest with noise
(their only weapon) when their last minute is finished and
the adult males pack them off to bed at night!
Boys are found everywhere: on top of, underneath, inside of,
climbing on, swinging from, running around, or jumping to.
Mothers love them, little girls hate them, older sisters
and brothers tolerate them and adults ignore them. A boy is
truth with dirt on its face, beauty with a cut on its finger,
wisdom with bubble gum in its hair, and the hope of the
future with a frog in its pocket. When you are busy, a boy
is an inconsiderate, bothersome, intruding jungle of noise.
When you want him to make an impression, his brain turns
into jelly or else he becomes a jungle creature, bound on
destroying the world, and himself with it. A boy is a
composite. He has the appetite of a horse, the digestion
of a sword-swallower, the imagination of Paul Bunyan, the
energy of a pocket-size atomic bomb, the curiosity of a
cat, the shyness of a violet, the audacity of a steel trap,
the enthusiasm of a fire cracker, and when he make something,
he has five thumbs on each hand. He likes ice cream,
movies, Christmas, comic books, the boy across the street,
woods, water in its natural habitat, large animals, trains,
Saturday mornings, and fire engines. He is not much for
Sunday school, composing, music lessons, neckties, barbers,
girls, overcoats, adults or bedtime.
Nobody else is so early to rise or so late to supper.
Nobody else gets so much fun out of trees, dogs, and
breezes. Nobody else can cram into one pocket a rusty
knife, a half-eaten apple, 3 feet of string, 2 gumdrops, a
five-cent slingshot, a chunk of unknown substance, and one
supersonic code ring with a secret compartment. A boy is
a magical creature - you can lock him out of your workshop,
but you can't lock him out of your heart! You can get him
out of your study, but you can't lock him out of your mind!
Might as well give up! He is your captor, your jailer,
your boss, and your master. But when your dreams tumble
down and the world is a mess, he can put together the broken
pieces in just a twinkle with a few magic words...I LOVE YOU!0
