    h. A mate turn round and said "**** um, the debts not in YOUR name!".?

Typical attitude of the vast majority of people who havent the faintest clue how to handle facilities offered them. How about paying off what you off instead of trying to wriggle out of it;););)

Quite ironic that you should say such a thing, considering your username suggests you actively promote [STRIKE]people[/STRIKE] banks worming their way out of their responsibilities!

HBOS - cannot handle facilites - FACT
HBOS - in serious debt - FACT
HBOS - trying to wriggle out of their responsibilities - FACT

Can I remind you that it is fine to have an opinion but when you contradict yourself at least do it in style and not make yourself look a tit! :rotfl:

it will show an alias on your file

No it won't. An alias will be added only if the OP has chosen to be known by one, or uses another name. If it is an error through no fault of his own then it would be removed the moment I.D was sent to the CRA's - to counteract the claim of an alias.

You have a habit of giving duff advice. Do you want me to send you a learn-it tutorial for CRA's? :D

Regards to the OP, the facts of the matter are that if he willingly took the card at the time, even though the name was spelt incorrectly, then it would be assumed that he was the intended cardholder and would become liable. A typo (due to name error) would not constitute unenforceability.

This is also the reason an alias will not be added, you are not using this name as a chosen alias, it is simply an error.

I have many applications from when I was younger when I didn't know I was applying for a credit account - I used the name I get called not my actual name. They show as "applications that might be yours". If you used the same date of birth and only a slightly different name then the debts yours and you know it is :p

Not an official Alias name but it will show on the credit file if the d.o.b for instance are the same which I presume they are?

Not necessarily it won't but my answer was specifically in response to yours regards to alias in which case an alias would not be added. It would be almost impossible in this situation. Therefore either 2 credit records or just the same account with a typo linked to current credit file, either way would have one CRN (cust ref number) :D
