My credit card has my name spelt incorrectly on it

in Credit cards
I contacted my cc company when they issued this a couple of years ago when I was first issued it and was told that I must have completed the application incorrectly and to change it they would have to cancel that account and recredit score a new one with my actual name. I didn't bother with doing that as I was going away and need the card for the trip. Anyway fast forward two years and my situation has changed a lot. Money is really tight now and I have a £2000 balance that I'm struggling a little with. A mate turn round and said "**** um, the debts not in YOUR name!". Anyone know the actually legal position.
One other thing I find weird is that they must have credit scored the wrong name. How on earth did someone who does exist pass a credit scoring for a £2700 limit credit card????

I am sure someone will give you a definite answer, but this sounds a little like you could be done for Fraud.
i.e. You knew about it and alas you continued to use it anyway. Admittedly the are to blame also but I am sure they would try and pin it on you if they could.
Be careful.Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Have you looked at your credit reports to see what's actually on there? For help, see page 1 of the *How to obtain credit reports* sticky.
If this is merely an alternative spelling of your name, it's likely both versions appear on your credit filesPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

It's not on my file. I have a very uncommon surname and the way they have spelt it is wrong.
Aslo how did they even credit score it?0 -

Nice! A typically friendly, considered and erudite response from you there Simon. The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0 -

If they have a record informing you that you should cancel the account and you've refused as you've needed the card then you've accepted that you're going to use the card in that name & as such be liable.
Trying to get out of paying the debt will leave yourself open to many things, fraud being one of them.0 -
Hence projectile vomit0
