End 18 month o2 contract

Hi,
I'm on an 18 month o2 contracted Samsung Omnia phone, which ends in Feb2010, I would like to end this contract in order to purchase an iphone 3gs, Is this at all possible?
Harry..

Yes it is - just pay your monthly line rental multiplied by how many months you have left.

The Iphone is only with O2 at the moment anyway... Try to call them and upgrade to it. You will most likely have to sign reaaaally long contract and maybe even pay a bit extra for the phone, but they might let you do it if it means they can sign you up for a lot longer and get extra montly charges...

They won't let you do it without paying the line rental x the number of months you have left. Will need to port your number to PAYG, the back onto your new contract if and when you get it.

Harry007 - some of the advice here assumes you're leaving your network. Since we know you're on o2 and you want an iPhone, exclusive to o2, that advice is invalid. 'Any' has got it right.
You can wait until Feb and stay with 02 and ask for an upgrade, or you may be able to upgrade early. If you log into your account you might find out when the earliest is you can upgrade. Waiting is the cheapest option, but if you phone early and tell them you don't like your phone and WILL leave them in Feb if they don't give you a good deal that might be a good bargaining position. Just don't tell them you're dying for an iPhone, as that's the only place you can get it so they'll have you over a barrel!

Iphone 3GSs are going for about £550 on Ebay.

There's no bargaining positions with the iphone at all, no discounts etc. So you can choose to have those tariffs or choose not to.

I wasn't assuming the OP was leaving the network, but by paying off the contract early, a new one has to be started, hence with a new number, which is why they would need to port the number across.

Nobody has assumed that. The advice given is correct for a customer wanting an iPhone.

Completely correct apart from the last bit, you don't end your contract in any way, you just pay it off and then the advisor overrides the upgrade system. Priority listing is taken into account so if you're a gold or platinum then the appropriate months will be knocked off the final cost. If you're not any of the above and spend £50 on average over 12m then your listing will again be manually over-ridden so you pay the gold or platinum price.
