i agree with some of the stuff you are saying. i worked for a major high street bank and received minimum training, well actually none. i learnt as i went along. i left after a few months.
academia doesn't matter. i am in the second year of my degree (economics, not a mickey mouse one) have plenty of experience elsewhere. academia doesn't matter for the job, the computer does most of it, if you have the training.
its shameful to think HSBC made £11bn profits last year and the customer service is S**T0 -

[/QUOTEMy natwest branch sorted mine out in ten minutes and were knowledgeable and skilled.
Abbey were...........words fail me.
Perhaps the difference is natwest are a bank and abbey are a building society with a couple of go faster stripes.0 -
thats not very fair about acedemia - i remember my interview for bank - 3 hours i was there - role play, interview, and 2 different tests in exam conditions - i'm sure not everyone could pass that
i have a degree - it does not matter in the world of banking if i do or not - but the tests and the interview do0 -

In my bank we used to have a manager who interviewed all new prospective staff.
They had to have two qualifications!!
One they had to be female, two, they had to be blonde!
We used to run a book on the quiet to see who was taken on!
(It was always the blonde)0 -
I am sure that there are good bank staff out there, unfortunately though I have to agree that the general level of service provided by the big high street banks is usually poor.0

I am in the process of moving my banking from the abbey to the yorkshire building society.
In my local branch they know my name, they ask me how the baby is and nothing is too much trouble.0 -
The Royal Bank of Scotland staff are excellent, but they move them around ,is that RBS policyTo be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Bored housewives lost in fantasies and on power trips to make up for quiet nights in the bedroom or spotty kids thinking about what they pulled last night in Cinderella Rockerfellas....your and your financial matters are often last on their list of priorities.
Insist on speaking to the counter manager and hope they have a GCSE.
I find this deeply insulting. Good job you have the anonymity of the Internet to allow you to go round spouting such tripe with no come-back. Heaven forbid you should actually have to look someone in the eye and tell them what you thought about them.
BCEveryone needs something to believe in.
I believe I need another beer.0 -

No. In nearly all cases they were less than useless and tended to last no more than a year before moving on to another job.
Trouble was/is as soon as someone leaves you have to re train a new person as well as trying to keep an eye on your own!0
