You could always go in and say you gave them £1400 and would like £100 back.

After all, your receipt appears not to be proof of your paying £1300...how would they know you haven't paid more? :p
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler
  • I thought it would be a small independent business, certainly not a large chain like Harveys.

What an absolute load of tosh, I'd get on the phone to head office tomorrow to complain about there dopey sales assistants who cant count / have pocketed £100!

Seems a particularly ridiculous stance for them to take.

Politely explain that you have paid for the furntiture, have a receipt to prove that fact and expect the furniture to be delivered as agreed.

If they refuse to deliver the furniture, they are in breach of the contract between yourselves and will have to refund the full amount shown on the receipt (i.e. £1300 not £1200)

In addition, if you can source the same sofa from elsewhere and end up paying more, you could sue them for the extra cost involved in obtaining the sofa!!

On that basis they would (a) have been forced to give you £100 more than they say you paid, (b) have lost the profit on the sofa and (c) potentially have to make up the difference if you end up buying the same sofa for more elsewhere.

    Ludicrous!!

If you paid £1300 and they gave you a receipt for £1300, then they now need to deliver your sofa.

An employee probably had their hands in the till and took £100, so when they balanced the till at the end of the day, it was £100 short, and as you paid so much in cash, then you were an easy target to blame.

Make sure you include in your letter that if the sofa does not arrive, you will be wanting a £1300 refund within 48 hours, and you will not hesitate to take them to court if they fail to complete their contract with you.

DO NOT lose that receipt. Make lots of copies of it!!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
