Best Bras?

Options
Hi, hope this is the correct place but I don't really fancy discussing my chest in the arms :D

I have gained a bit of weight recently and my chest has increased as a result and really need to buy a bigger bra. I have decided for the first time in my life to buy myself a few really good quality bras that are going to last and give a good shape. Fed up of cheap ones where the bone starts sticking into me after two washes :o. Can anyone recommend a shop or website.

I know there has been a thread on big bras but unfortunately I'm not in that catagory! :o

I went to La Senza, where an assistant measured me & gave me proper instruction on how to wear a bra properly! All these years & I finally get a lesson on how to look & feel good in the bust department:p.

Apparently the majority of women have the straps set so the cups are sitting too low. Since then I must say it has made a difference & I feel much more comfortable around my boob area, especially as I've put on a bit of weight over the past year.:( I've started to notice how many women have low boobs now & feel smug that mine are sitting nice & proud, up where they should be & not fighting to go down south.:rotfl:

They do some nice bra's in La Senza too & when they have a sale on you can get some lovely bargains.

Good old M&S is always a safe bet too.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Hi,

I always go to Debenhams when i need a new bra, i'm quite an unsual size and Debenhams have a good choice. Plus you can get some quite good offers. I went last month and bought 2 bras for 30.00 and got matching knickers free!! Plus the ladies will measure you and make sure the bra fits perfectly!

I usually go to Marks and Spencer. They measured me and told me I was a 34D. Interesting to note however that their plunge bras do not fit me. Their Ceriso range is uncomfortable and it is only their other balconette bras which fit properly. The moral here is: try lots on before you buy them.

I've always found that M&S and most bras from House of Fraser wash well.

We have a La Senza in town so will go there and have a look. I was wondering whether they were any good. I had a m&s bra that didn't last that long, I felt a bit resentful because of how much I paid so just bought them from Primark, treating them as disposable, but they are so poor they are a false economy. Thanks for the advice, I will go into la Senza if they have helpful staff.

Sadly not, just a C cup as far as I know. I have never had a bra measured and fitted. Stupid question but what does the process involve?

M&S are lousy at measuring and fitting in my experience.

Been to Bravisimo and didn't find them brill apart from the fact they ran back and fro with bras for me to try and they knew the style of their bras. I was wearing the right size though:T:T:T

I like Freya and Fantasie but the same size in different styles fit differently.

If you have biggish boobs go for a size around your back that is snug on the loosest hooks. It should fit flat against your body and if you raise your arms up in the air not lift up. If it doesn't sit flat at the front it means you need a bigger cup size not back size. The back of the bra should fit horizontal and level with the front. If when you tighten the shoulder straps the back rides up in the middle then you need a smaller back size.

Usually if you move down a back size you go up at least one cup size. If you go up a back size you usually need to go down a cup size. The smaller back size with give most support but it shouldn't leave deep marks or feel very uncomfortable but it may feel a bit strange if you are used to wearing your bras on comfy setting!

Have a look here. You can do it yourself, you don't need a store to do it for you

I've never found the tape measure very accurate for me and this ended up with M&S giving me a bra that was 2 sizes too big around the back.

I get fitted every time a buy a new bra, nothing to be worried about! At Debenhams they don't use a tap measure, they can normally get a rough idea just by looking at you! They take you to a cubicle and ask you what size your currently wearing, the lady then goes onto the shop floor and brings back a few to try. When you've got one on you ring a bell and the lady comes back and checks the fit! She will advise on what hook to have it on and adjust the straps. Don't worry the lady never sees you without a bra on, (my sis had never been fitted either cos she was worried about showing her boobs!!) We both went to Debenhams and she couldn't believe that she had been worrying!

Chances are that, if you think you are a C cup, you're probably a DD! ;)

I think it is true that most of us wear (or used to wear) the wrong sized bra. I spent years wearing a bigger back size when in fact I needed a bigger cup and smaller back.

I agree with the comments about M&S, they measured my mum as something bizarre like a 44E. She is closer to a 38D!

If you are near London I would highly recommend booking a fitting at Rigby and Peller. They do bras of all prices, and will happily fit you with no obligation to buy.
