would second those who have mentioned Bravissimo, John Lewis and Debenhams for fitting as all now seem to use the same method of fitting - I.e no tape measure, analyse current bra, try lots on, etc. (J/L and Deb were useless until bravissimo came to town then they mirculaously improved pretty much overnight which was amusing)

I personally have never had a good fitting service at M&S,although some of there bras are ok and cheaper than Freya etc, so I would suggest getting a good fitting and maybe buying one or two more expensive bras, and once you are confident that you know exactly how they should fit (which a good fitter will teach you) then you can go to M&S and try loads on. I would say the same for La Senza really - fitting service not great, and sizing tendsto be very different.

and defo don't be surprised if you go down in the back and up in the cup - dragged a friend who was blatantly in the wrong size to Brav. one day and she went from a 36dd to a 30g!!

HIghly recommend a proper fitting in an independent lingere shop, the best ones are usually the ones hidden upstairs somewhere with an older woman who can look at you and get your size!!

Don't touch M&S for measuring EVER!!!

Once you get an idea of what size you are and what a proper fitting bra looks and feels like then you will be more able to go to other shops and find ones yourself.

I usually try on loads and in various sizes as no 2 bras are the same!!

M&S have been pants at measuring me though their bras are ok
As opposed to being bras at measuring you but their pants are OK? :D;)

I second the positive recommendations for Bravissimo and the negative ones for M&S. Interesting to note what scotsgirl said about JL and Debenhams raising their game once Bravissimo came to town! I haven't been fitted anywhere except Bravissimo for years, and Debenhams and JL used to be rubbish - I wonder if the Oxford Street stores might have started offering a decent service now that there is a large Bravissimo five minutes away?

  • Oh, word up for larger busted ladies looking for pretty lingerie - Brastop.com is an absolute winner for this. I can safely say that Curvy Kate bras fit like a dream and are about £15 on there in loads of different colours.

    Gave me a 42D and I wear a 38 FF

Same here as that was the biggest size they stocked! Would never buy M&S bras again!

I've recently been buying bras from Elomi and they are the most comfortable I've worn in a very long time, and great quality too!

I also noticed that JL and Deb increased their stock - particularly of big cup small back bras - as soon as bravissimo opened. I actually can get most freya bras in edinburgh now which is a huge difference compared to a year or so ago.

M&S fitted me at a 36c when I was a 30g, and my best mate at a 38e when she was a 30h - amazing fitting service ahem cough!!

For anyone that has tried the curvy kate - how do they compare size wise to other brand like Freya? i vary a bit between different brands so was jsut wondering where they fit?

I've been to La Senza and the person who measured me said I was a 34D. I turned to her and said a 34D hadn't fitted me since I was 13 and that I had some of their bras in that size that did not fit at all! Now with the rib measurement being 28 inches it's suprising she said 34 at all as that is 32  ! My bust measurement was 38 inches so a D was also unrealistic :rotfl: . I went out of the store with a 32F that fitted PERFECTLY with no help what so ever to the assistant  . I was at the time a 32E or 32F depending on store and style :T . Their bras are very good. I've had bras from them that lasted a year with nearly every day use but had to get new ones when I went up a cup size . Ann Summers bras are good quality as well I find with nice styles as well.

Marcocha, I tried that too - I wear a 36DD and that is a perfect fit - following the instructions on that link told me that I should be a 40A? Now I've seen A cup bras and there is no way mine are fitting in one of them! Might try a 40A next time, be a laugh!

I agree that the best way to find out is to go and try them on. The bravissimo link to finding a well fitting bra is good. Lots of people wear their bra too loose around the back - it should be quite tight (although obviously you need to be able to breathe!).

I reckon the best way of doing it is to use your original bra size as a starting point, then take that size and a couple either side in to try on. So if you are usually a 36D, try on a 34DD and a 38C aswell. Pick the one that fits best, then do the same again.

I like La Senza bras, I struggle to find anything that fits well anywhere else, I find Marksies never feel supportive enough and Debenhams seems to have oddly shaped cups? Guess its all down to the individual though.

    Good luck!

Oh grand! Just reading the first page of this (and I'm one of many who have two different boob sizes, and I'm reckoning cos one side at the front is lifting, I'm a F cup! My sisters would kill me (I got the share of the boobs in my house) but OH is going to love me!

I'd recommend Asda bras (not too expensive and they wash well) and BHS ones, as they're the size they're meant to be and good for boobs big and small (as she sits typing, in the bra with which her boobs do no go up and down with typing movements)
