Problems with my router

I have jus purchased a netgear router so i can use the internet on my laptop...problem is when i load the software onto my home PC it says ther is no internet connection even though i have ntl broadband... does anyone know how i can fix this?? thanks

The adsl netgears come with a blue cable in the box, not sure about the cable version, PC world sell them for a few quid if you don't have one.
