Just a quick idea, most routers need to be configered on a network cable before they can be accessed wirelessly.
If you are trying to access Internet via laptop and you havent connected router to PC using wire it wont work
Easy fixTa0 -
i havent been trying to access the internet, havnt got that far... i cant get past the setup wizard on the cd-rom.. do u think there maybe is a problem with my broadband?0

I have NTL broadband and have set up my system same with first a SMD router and now a Belkin both were very easy and straight forward. Just plug network cable from NTL modum into router.
Have you got your usual internet connection working?Ta0 -
You could also try powering down modem for 30sec and restarting following inclusion of router
Just realised that you must have internet access to be on line now? or are you using another computer?Ta0 -
What is the model of your netgear router?
Have you bought an ADSL router or a broadband router? I would have expected NTL to require a broadband router.0 -
Its a netgear 54mbps wireless router - wgr614 -is this the correct one ?
says its easy set up in minutes ??????0 -
It is best to try and get a connection to the router first before doing anything else. You say you are using your home pc, is this a desktop? If it has a lan connection then connect this to the router's lan port with a network cable and connect the cable from your modem to the WAN port of the router. They may be called something different but you should be able to work it out from your user manual.
Then it might be an idea to configure the router manually instead of using the cd's setup wizard. I had a netgear router and you could access it's config page by typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address window of a web browser. If this works you will probably see a page requesting a password and as the router is new it will be a default password which again you can find in the manual. I have used two routers with ny ntl connection and I have found that I have not needed to change any of the settings to connect to the internet when connected via a network cable. Connecting wirelessly however has proved more problematic but it still should not be too difficult. Best thing to do is to make sure everything is connected as detailed in the manual and follow any instructions to the letter.
Oh and another thing, sometimes you need to power the router or modem off for a little while before getting the internet working right so might be easiest to try that first.0 -
Are you connected to an NTL setup-box or to a modem? If it is to a modem, power off the modem, connect the ethernet output from your modem to the internet (WAN) port of your WGR614. Using an ethernet cable (CAT5 cable), connect one of the open port to your PC ethernet port. Power up the modem, power up the router and power up your PC. If everything works, you should be able to get into the net straight away.. and by the way, please read the user manual .. it should have the full instruction on how to get connected to the net in no time ... And do remember, netgear has wireless set turn off by default.0
