If you use houseprices.co.uk and look at it in Firefox, then there is a nifty plugin that will enable you to click on any property and it will instantly group together every sale of that property in the past and do a calculation of profit/loss made. I use the site just for that plugin.

Plugin is two-part: first you need to find/install Grease Monkey and Property Chimp.

    1] Launch Firefox
    2] Go here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
    3] Install that
    4] Go here http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/31220
    5] Install that

Then go to http://www.houseprices.co.uk when in Firefox and once it's loaded you can see all the sales grouped together... but also in date order still.

Oooh thanks. Have firefox. But Grease Monkey and Property Chimp? - are those real names? Who comes up with them? Are they safe?

I'm not sure my OH will be thrilled if I start installing random things called Grease Monkey on our computer while he's out..... ."yes, dear, of course I believe you it's all about house prices..."

    Hmmm.

Didn't have you down as the downtrodden wifey type.

If I say something's good/OK/I use it, then take that as gospel.

    :)

I earn my living from my PC, which means I don't go installing stuff that could endanger that.

    They're both safe.

Do it and tell him to sling his hook.

I honesty think you will never have the balls to buy carol.

Yeah because of course selling yourself into debt slavery to buy a heap of bricks and mortar sold to you by a spiv on behalf of a greedy delusionist vendor really requires 'balls' doesn't it...

Thanks PN, not casting aspersions as to your reliability more reflects my lack of tech confidence. It's 'his' computer to the extent that he's the one who fixes it when it's broken and replies to my queries as to why it's not working with helpful reminders like 'Did you remember to switch on the big round 'on' button?'

It'd be like him interfering with our finances; we have his and hers spheres, based on our relative competences in the area. I get to be the professional house prices bore. :D

And long-term fixed rates are still poor.
Somehow I dont think long term rates are going to get much better

Yes, as ISTL is fond of pointing out, it's your own area that matters.

How are prices doing in your area, chucky?
Absolutely, you don't buy UK average properties neither does a SE local stats mean diddly squat to someone buying elsewhere.

Remind me where you live ISTL? I've just realised there is no point in reading any of your posts as they apply to a foreign country.

Thats fine if you don't mind being in rented. Personally, I can't stand it.

So these were people buying houses at great prices when you were posting on MSE telling everyone not to buy? And that makes you happy?

    Eh?

I can't make head nor tail of this post.

Telling who not to buy what?

    What makes me happy?

Clearly, that's why you made the decision you did to buy at the top of the market, despite the risks of negative equity, whilst others decided not to take that risk.

Neither position is 'right', except for that individual.

Possibly you were unwise; then again, if renting is such torture for you, then possibly you were correct.
