You are worrying over nothing. Seriously forget about it, apart from more regular topping up. If you can see no signs of leaks, drips etc then be assured it isn't leaking, you would see it. It WILL be using the oil.
If it's using excessive amounts of oil, it certainly is something to worry over. ;)
All engines/manufacturers are different. You will see a "disclaimer" in every owners handbook stating that it is normal to use say up to 1ltr of oil per 1k miles, ...
Surely a typo ... or at least I hope it is!
1 litre of oil every 10k miles perhaps, but not 1 litre every 1000 miles.

See my previous post regarding how much oil should be used between service intervals. It's quite common for manufacturers to set service intervals as frequently as they do simply because of the amount of oil expected to be consumed, otherwise it could be a lot longer.

I quote directly from my Skoda Favorit owners manual.... Page 43.
It is normal for an engine to use up a little oil (under extrem [sic] conditions up to 1 litre every 1000 km (600 miles)), and so you should check the oil level in your engine before starting a long journey.
Do people not read the owners manuals these days? :)

0.6l per 1000km for my Zafira. Doesn't use any though, unless you rev it hard.
And they do expect you to check the oil between service intervals.
Check any Vauxhall forum for the oil threads. Some use oil, some don't, it's certainly not uncommon.
  • My 2001 1.6 Astra also uses a hell of a lot of oil. A mechanic told me it has a valve which is the wrong size. Can't remember how much they wanted to change it but it was in excess of £100. Also had this confirmed by a relation who owned an Astra.

My mate had a new company car, a Vauxhall Vectra that consumed almost as much oil as petrol.

After a lot of back and forward to the dealers, he was told by Vauxhall that it was within tolerances for it to use a litre of oil every 450 miles.

Well what do you expect from a Skoda? :D

Trabby 2 strokes used about the same ;)

Just quoting the manual. Mine doesn't use all that much. But if oil usage is normal there's not much point spending hundreds of pounds to get the engine stripped and rebuild when a can of oil is a tenner :)

Any particular forum you recommend? There are several vauxhall forums when i do a search.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
