rogue texts

Daughter has a contract phone. And for the past few days she has been receiving texts asking her to access a pop site. She has just deleted these messages. Should i be worried and are these the texts that cost a fortune. Should i ring 02 tomorrow and get a up-date of the ammount of her bill. Or am i worrying about nothing.

Yes you need to worry! Im still waiting for a solution to this act of theft.

It appears that companys can text you without your consent and then charge you £1.50+ to receive there rubbish.

Your phone company will say there is nothing they can do because the truth of the matter is they make a hell of a lot of money from this scam and dont want to lose the revenue.

Please Please let me know if you work out how to rectify the matter - The TPS route is a joke - it doesnt stop anything.

  • This happened to me a while ago. I had a new phone from orange. Got a quiz text and deleted it. When bill arrived orange had charged me 50p. Ok its not much but thats not the point. Rang orange and explained that I had a totally unsolicted text. They said I had contacted the same number on one of my other phones previously. I HAD NOT, the number I had texted was Radio 5 live which I do from time to time. I also expained that this phone I did not use for texts. They could not argue as there were no texts on the bill. They say they did not give out my number, but I suspect they did. Anyway they have refunded the cost. As I said its only 50p but where does it stop!

    ;)

I have had the same text (Secret Admirer) yesterday and the day before, I am on contract so was not sure whether I was being charged for it . But hopefully not if your son has not been charged, so I will continue just to delete them but they are a real nusance the one came at 3.00 in the morning and woke me up.
