Council house now to big

Sorry, Debrag, and I know that you are now researching the information and have a meeting planned, but it all sounds like they live chaotic lives and have made daft/rash decisions based on (probably wrong) assumptions to preserve the tenancy despite it evidentally not being in some people's interest to do this.
I thought it was fairly commonly well known that tenants do not lose the property when the household reduces in number and that council properties cannot be retained when the named tenants move out. The neighbouring borough, Southwark, has an active investigation team whose primary role is to recover illegally sublet properties where the original tenants have moved on and let others live there.
Therefore, artificially cramming the property was unnecessary (and counter productive). Those that aren't authorised to live there and cannot be assigned the tenancy will have to sort out onward accommodation (where they may or may not be eligible for social housing themselves due to their imminent homelessness).
that is because the brother is being fed aload of crap by everyone else. I have been telling him he doesn't nessarally have to move. Neither the sister or brother want to move.0 -
Well hopefully the advice you've been given on the topic is accurate and the brother can have this validated at source (through the guide for tenants published by the council and directly from the council itself).0
-
just been on the phone with the brother and looks like the nephew doesn't want to leave either.0

I know this sounds harsh. But to be honest it sounds like everybody will be better off out of this situation. In addition returning a 5 red to council stock is bound to help a family in need. I hope your m8 gets a nice place sorted.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

I might have got this wrong but can't the tenant just transfer the tenancy to the person who wants to remain in the house... and then that person be rehomed to a smaller place still within social housing?Lost lbs =

well the bad rubbish is out the house as of tomorrow i.e. Friday, so we just have to wait and see what the council offer.0

well the meeting is over. The sister is moving in with her boyfriend and the they have offered to give back / swap the 5 bed place for a 2 bed place for the brother & nephew. Now all thats needed is them to find. bid and get excepted for a property.0

Brilliant! Sounds like they will all be better off that way!
What band have they placed them in?0 -
that I'm not sure of, technically they shouldn't be high priority - no kids, not disabled etc (though the nephew has been signed off sick) but I can't see them being 'general' as the council will be wanting the house from them ASAP.0

So I thought the nephew wasn't moving in with the girlfriend due to not being allowed the dog there but it goes down to them making out she'd have to pay rent if he moved it (no she won't if no-ones working) plus of course she'd no longer have her single parent benefit crap. At least AVON know her new address and she won't get a way with not paying them what she owes!0
