with what money?
I'm only telling you what I think the rules are. They should be able to claim the rent allowance for private renting.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Money they get from working. just like the rest of us!
Or local housing allowance. Many councils offer schemes to guarantee the deposits to landlords for tenants that can't afford them.
When a tenant is no longer in social housing, it is no longer their primary residence and usually it means that the tenancy agreement is breached. Council's expect tenants that have moved out to give the property back for re-allocation and will take legal action to gain possession of property that has been sublet without permission.
The remaining person should contact Shelter for advice on homelessness and find out more about how a local council has a statutory obligation to assist them - at the end of the day, a local authority is obliged to assist those at risk of homelessness through no fault of their own (even squatters evicted through a court order can approach the council for rehousing, for example).
So it is worth speaking to experts at Shelter or CAB about the remaining occupant and determine whether there are two separate issues here - - the need to hand back the council property and this person's vulnerability to homelessness caused by it - or if they will be dealt with as one.0 -
I would speak to shelter and see where it lies with the council making the remaining non tenant homeless.
Why can't the sister and brother just stay in the house?£2014 in £2014 challenge

it's the brother that I'm concerned about.
Nephew & girlfriend have a place, sister will move in withother half so leaving the brother in the house, sister will stay if they cn keep they house.
The little !!!! knew all along she wasn't staying, she had already turned down one place, the HA had her down as living at her mothers!!! The council must have known as she had health vistors round yesterday.0 -

Sorry I dont know the story here. But to be honest most mums and kids have their own family home. Why is this lady not allowed one? Or did she promise to care for a family member or something? Is this case more complicated than its seems?
I am just concerned from your reaction that perhaps the man left is not able to care for himself or something and thats why your so worried? If that was the case he may have some more entitlements, to help.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -
she's not part of the family just the girlfriend of the nephew. She turned down a flat to move in with him meaning they got to keep the flat (as far as me and the brother were concerned). She knew from the beginning that she wasn't staying and was lying about where she lived etc. She even redecorated (poorly) knowing she was leaving.
I'm worried for the 'brother' coz he'll end up on the street and god knows what he'll do.
They can spend the whole day in the pub then start complaining they have no money for rent so go running to the 'brother' to sort everything.
Just found out about the 'underoccupation scheme' hopefully brother & sister can get a 2 bed place.0 -
God how confusing.
Whoever is on the rent book can keep the house, some councils will offer money to downsize.
If the sister is the tennacy holder and leaves then the brother AFIAK wont be entitled to stay in the house, unless he is also on the tennancy.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
if she can keep the house then she'll stay, but it's a 5 bed house surely the council will want it for a bigger family.
Whenever the sister mentions it's a 5 bed house, they are like 'what!' Lewisham Council must really need them.0
