Nightclub flyer with wrong prices listed...

The title explains it all really but where do I stand when trying to order drinks for the advertised price on the flyers (specific to that night) which was £2.60 a Carling pint and then they charge £3.70 for the pint. While I guess this is an 'invitation to treat' doesn't it go further that that in this case as we paid entry to the club and a large factor in our decision to go there was the advertised price.

When inside I felt short changed and tried to reason with the bar staff but they would not charge a lower price. If I had wanted to leave the club, would I hypothetically have been able to get a refund? The night was also a one off, not t obe repeated night so the situation whereby I tell the managers and then they alter the price in a sufficient time frame also doesn't apply here.

I kept the receipt and the flyer as proof of the swindle.

Any info on this would be appreciated,

If the night was advertised in the press or online then the Advertising Standards Authority. Trading Standards will also be interested in examples of blatant misrepresentation.

Was it maybe a sun-thurs deal or similar? did you speak to a manager or anything while you were there about it??
  • I have actually found the flyer for the event online listed at myspace.com/slamdunk club
(I would write the link out properly but I can;t as I am a new user)

It was also listed in newspapers/going out guides. I have also found an advert for it online at the london paper . com but as I am a new user I cannot post links.

Incidentally further mistakes with the flyer include the fact that on the website of the venue it was listed as 14+ night (under 16's accompanied by parents), on the flyer it says 18+ only. On the door we were all ID'd.

    Thanks again

Had a nosy at the myspace page and couldn't see any restrictions... we have a garage club I used to frequent (the relentless/garage bit indicates it is the same company) and it was an 18+ as a club but a 14+ as a gig venue and depended on times etc.

Might be worth firing off an email saying you went there due to the price of the beer and send a scanned copy of the receipt explain that they wouldn't change the price and see what happens

Please report this to your local Trading Standards office. This may constitute an offence under The Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations Section 5(4)(g). They can investigate on your behalf. You will also need to write to the management of the club outlining your complaint and asking for a refund of any overcharges.

Go with what Bingo Bango says!

Trading standards (local one to the club in question) should be able to help in this case. It's a very cheeky tactic to get more money, and I guess they're hoping for punters to be drunk enough not to notice or care!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Thanks guys.

I started this thread more to know where I stood were it to happen again. At the time I didn't really know my rights and so didn't want to talk to the manager about it. Unfortunately I think I've gone and lost the receipt so I can't follow it up anyway.
Would it even be worth it for a few quid? While I guess that is the wrong attitude unless I really felt I was going to get something out of it it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

    Thanks for the help though.

I think that you are correct and that if you are lucky they will send you a cheque for £1.10. Or alternatively free entry tickets

Best of luck. (Is it really worth the cost of the stamp?)

As others have indicated they can't be forced to sell you the drinks at that price. But they can be prosecuted for providing false information.
