I used to work for Virgin active...

the £20 refers to the joining fee. It means you pay £20 to sign up, you will then be charged a monthly fee. It is likely they will sign you up to a 12 month contract.

The company has loads of offers on at any one time. They waive the joining fee for certain groups (companies etc). If you want to join take their details and say you will think about it. They will call you a few days later and probably will half the joining fee. Tell them you're not sure and you will call them back. Wait a bit and they will prob then offer a no joining fee deal.

Be careful, the sales team have precise instruction to get as much money out of you as possible!

    Hi

There is an offer in the current Elle magazine- a jolie is on the front. I think you have to text a number so you could look at the magazine in the shop.

    Okay here goes,

my pru contract and virgin active ran out on the 16th...so am looking for great deals too. What I've found outso far is this, certain clubs are going 2 for 1 - thats not joining fee, thas the monthly cost, but this may have been limited to those joining on Feb only.
The joining fee can be waived...of course it can and the clubs will let you join for their "transfer" fee of £10. Apparently the best time to haggle is at the end of the month, since they see how much money they have made at the beginning from joining fees ( one of the sales rep told my partner when he joined).

There is a national leaflet that they have behind their desks which list all the prices which are as follows....for FULL MEMBERSHIP MONTHLY(pay month by month with no contract) - £

    Scotland
    Edinburgh - 59.00
    Glasgow - 48.00

    North
    Birmingham - 53.00
    Birmingham Star City - 49.00
    Bolton - 49.00
    Derby - 53.00
    Leeds City - 37.00
    Leeds - 52.00
    Manchester City - 37.00
    Manchester Didsbury - 59.00
    Manchester Printworks - 49.00
    Milton Keynes - 51.00
    Milton Keynes Badminton - 39.00
    Northampton - 52.00
    Nottingham - 62.00
    Preston - 49.00
    Rugby - 51.00
    Shefffield - 48.00
    Solihull - 53.00

    Prices for FULL MEMBERSHIP CONTRACT(12MNTHS)-£
    Scotland
    Edinburgh - 49.95
    Glasgow - 39.95

    North
    Birmingham - 43.95
    Birmingham Star City - 40.95
    Bolton - 42.95
    Derby - 44.95
    Leeds City - 26.95
    Leeds - 43.95
    Manchester City - 26.95
    Manchester Didsbury - 49.95
    Manchester Printworks - 42.95
    Milton Keynes - 41.95
    Milton Keynes Badminton - 31.95
    Northampton - 42.95
    Nottingham - 51.95
    Preston - 43.95
    Rugby - 42.95
    Shefffield - 42.95
    Solihull - 45.95
    (sorry no London prices)

Was thinking of joining back up at Manchester but i know that the plans are to get rid of two of the three studios (more than halfing my classes), and to rent part of it off to the Printworks as a restaurant (therefore losing alot of the gym), the "renovation" work begins in April and there will be disuption for three months!! Of course they aren't telling new members this, but the nu,ber of people at this particular gym has gone up at least three fold!!

Hope this is helpful to some of you out there, am also waiting for a similar deal to the pru health to come up....good luck x

the bupa offer is for free "off peak" plus £10 on top for peak membership - phone for a quote and mention the gym membership, the pruhealth carries on PLUS £25 on top of the insurance premium....can work out to be a bit pricey...as in my case...unfortunately..
