Money off rent if you dont use shower

I have left it to him to sort it out now. His boss let him borrow his mobile while his had a signal.
02 is not much use in the Lakes! LOL! But that is another story.0 -

Now of course you could adopt the attitude of 'screw it, I don't care what damage is caused it's the LL's problem' but that's not a terribly sociable attitude and could actually be cutting off one's nose to spite one's face if enough added damage is caused to put the bathroom out of action all together whilst major plumbing work goes on.
The LL appears to be the good sort, they've got workmen out and offered a rent reduction which shows they are taking the issue seriously. I would suggest that by the information given, all it would take is a call in to the LL to explain that the shower is essential for their use and I'd also pass on the comments made by the plumber (the plumber may be screwing the LL over! Unless one has specific knowledge of a trade one can only go by what the trade says) and ask specifically what the issue is and that you'd prefer it rectified rather than a rent reduction.
they may seem the good sort,to me the good sort gets things fixed
if they are offering a drop in rent then they are obviously expecting this to be a long term 'solution'0 -

It looks like its going to be baths from now on, only six weeks left in the flat, its not the end of the world.
They are now negotiating with the LL for a proper reduction and written confirmation that she doesnt hold them responsible for the damage as she was aware of the problem before they moved in.
Hopefully LL will get the job sorted once and for all when they move, but I have a feeling that LL would rather have less money coming in than fix what could be quite an expensive problem.
Cheers everyone.0 -
That's a point that always worth highlighting to any other T who may be reading the thread. There is another thread on the board in which the OP says items were replaced by the LL mid-tenancy and at the end of the tenancy , the LL is now trying to suggest that the T is responsible so that he can attempt to recoup his full costs.Bored_Housewife wrote: »...They are now negotiating with the LL for a proper reduction and written confirmation that she doesnt hold them responsible for the damage as she was aware of the problem before they moved in..
Hope the rest of your son's tenancy passes uneventfully, and that they get a suitable reduction for the loss of the use of the shower.0 -

i actually have no problem whatsoever in making a couple of phone calls/emails for one of my family, perhaps you see it as molly coddling them, perhaps you are right, but I dont see it that way at all.
Having gone off to boarding school at the tender age of 14, worked as soon as he was able to, gone off to uni and worked while there, travelled quite extensively from a young age, being sociable, not having brought any trouble to our front door, is considered by people that meet him as a pleasant, well mannered man, is a thoughtful and kind son, brother and uncle - I actually love to be able to do something for him in return.
As previously mentioned flat mate is on holiday in Iceland until later this evening and as previously mentioned, son did make calls last night, the ll didnt pick up and he will be out of signal until this evening, so as a courtesy to the LL I have brought it to the EA attention.
Son has just txt me to say he has managed to speak to LL.
Don't feel you have to justify helping out your son - it's called being part of a family. I too am happy to help out my children when I can although of course they can stand on their on feet. My mum is nearly 80 and still helps me when she can and I appreciate this too. It doesn't mean I can't stand on my own two feet - it just means we are a family.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
I had an update from my son. The landlord was sending around a plumber yesterday to assess the situation, he would then do the work on Monday.
The estate agent was also sending around someone from their survery department to check out the safety of the bathroom floor.
The LL has asked that the lads done "overdo" the showers. I am not too sure what that means but the lads are happy with what is happening, they still have use of the shower which was what the wanted.0 -
Do you and your son never sleep?.
He gave you an update between 2.30 and 5 in the morning?
You really are a bored housewife.0 -

How on earth do you work that out when there is more than 48hrs between OP's last post and the one from this morning?
Today is Saturday and OP last posted on Thursday!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
