Converting MP4 format or even just editing!

Blonde moment...

Is there a free software that will allow me to edit MP4 files or convert them to a format I can easily work with?
I have some gorgeous videos of my daughter from my mobile that I want to send to the grandparents but they need a bit of editing (got a bit carried away and they're HUGE LOL) before sending... However the Movie maker that comes with Vista will only save in one format - which they can't view! ARGH!

I will go against the current advice and suggest the best way is to.... download and install an MPEG 4 CoDec if you haven't already done so.

Next, you need MP4Cam2AVI Easy Converter.

Despite the name, it doesn't 'convert' the file as the others will, resulting in a loss of quality. It just puts it in a different 'package' that makes it recognisable to WMM.

Exactly, it's absolutely no good at all for files that were described as HUGE.
