Redrum wrote:Hear hear! I couldn't agree more with you DS, on all of the above.
Just wrote a couple of hundred words agreeing with you and putting my own POV across, but frankly got bored and couldn't be bothered with the inevitable squabbling it would generate
So instead, I'll re-quote what I think is your most salient point and back it to the hilt:
I'm afraid that if if the board loses its personality...then it will become bland, bland, bland
Can't think of a better way to spend my 200th post than supporting such an intellligently-written and common-sense piece of writing
We don't just post on this thread because we want to accumulate piggypoints, though doubtless many many more read than post, and that's entirely fair enough, (thank goodness, really, or we'd never get through it!) We don't, many of us, even post simply to find answers to problems, though again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using the thread for that purpose only. Those of us who come back time and time again to read and post even when we don't have a problem do so because it is INTERESTING. We enjoy the humour, the interplay between the different personalities, and to a certain extent we may also enjoy the challenge created by the odd conflict.
If you remove the spice from the Pigsback thread, you will have nothing left but an exchange of information, and valuable as that is, it's not nearly as much fun!
Droopsnout, you have my support 100%. You're always kind and welcoming to newbies, you provide help in all sorts of areas, and you also give us lots of extremely amusing and clever posts to read. You're an established part of this thread, and anyone can see you care about it and the people here, and want to do what you can to make everything function smoothly. And if that includes suggesting to people that they read through a bit before they post, that's entirely reasonable; we all need to be reminded to do that from time to time. It's very much to your credit that you haven't given up yet, and still think it's worth trying to keep the thread tidy and manageable.
Chat and the friendly exchange of views don't really clog up this thread, because you can always scroll through and only stop when you see a link, but constantly repeated links do. It's inevitable that there will always be some, (and thread newbies especially shouldn't feel uncomfortable about having mistakes pointed out - we all make them!) but without constant reminders there would be a lot more, and then newbies would feel even more intimidated by the volume of information they have to wade through.droopsnout wrote:As far as I am aware, the last thread was closed because it got rather long, like all the previous threads on PB. Certainly, Divadee did not mention closing the thread for any other reason. Her penultimate post in the last thread did not allude to any unpleasantness.
I would re-iterate your advice that it is good netiquette to 'lurk' for a while before posting, (or at least before posting anything potentially confrontational), so that you get a feel for the style of the board. If you just wade in with complaints about other posters without taking the time to understand what is really going on, you create more problems than were there in the first place.A penny saved is a penny gained0 -

Tom has recently become a natural father for the first time. What has he called his daughter?
Suri
No Spotlight at midnight, then 2 in a day?
I'm now getting Tom Cruise's picture rather than Jamie Foxx, but it tells me that I've already answered this question.
Did answer the Jamie Foxx question earlier this morning.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
Has anyone bought from Ace insurance through Pigsback? I was wondering how long it should take for points to be credited - the wording implies they should be added straight away, but I bought travel insurance last week and haven't had my 200 points yet. I definitely followed the instructions correctly.0

I'd just like to add... that perhaps people shouldn't take offence so easily when something is pointed out to them.. double post, mistake - whatever..
I have never seen this done nastily yet some do take major umbrage and make an issue out of it, which inevitably leads to yet another 'discussion' on posting..
Chill folks, we're all one happy piggy family - lets stay that way!
Now, must go find me some click thrus!0 -

I didn't really say anything, but thanks! Just wanted to endorse what Droopsnout had said...
...and now want to do the same for your post. Completely agree with everything you wrote. Everything that I wanted to say, but couldn't be bothered to!
This seems to be turning into a mutual appreciation society....0 -

Any news on the Eurovision Marauding Musical Pigs Darragh?2 angels in heaven :A0 -
Darragh - how about a Word Cup "football hunt" in the style of the easter egg hunt? Hide a football somewhere on the site with points on it. This could depend on how many goals England score (10 points for 1, 20 for 2, extra 10 for a win etc).0
