Hi. This is droopsnout's keyboard operator speaking.
some people's comments have been pretty harsh and yes, Droopsnout, you are one of those people. I can't be bothered to go and trawl through previous threads to find examples
    I can.
but I feel that some of the comments you made a while ago would've intimidated newbies and discouraged them from posting again incase they had their heads bitten off. We're all here to help each other so what harm is it if someone accidently posts a quiz answer that someone else has already posted??

So, peeps, please DO post, and don't worry about the niceties. We can all tell whether someone has made an effort to communicate effectively, or whether they just don't care.

I must say, I like the eclectic mix of friendly nonsense, mutual help and informed discussion on here. OK, I don't like the needless repeat postings, but I'm quite willing to put up with that to retain the rest.

since the last bundle of chaos which resulted in the last thread being locked, you have been a lot nicer to people which is great to see.
All my quotes above are taken from towards the end of the last thread. As for being "a lot nicer to people", well, I guess you must have missed the eight months of crossword posting and friendly advice I was giving out. I was also fiercely critical of PB, and quite frequently, too, and generally defended the hapless PB user. However, as the number of people contributing to this thread increased hugely, there were inevitably some people whose postings left something to be desired. It became obvious that although sometimes (obviously) PB make mistakes, many users must have been misunderstanding the PB site and instructions, or were just negligent in their use of the PB site. Are you saying that all posters are above criticism?

The motto, "Be nice to other Moneysavers" is, of course, a sound one (indeed, why limit it to MSE-ers??), but it cannot be extended to outrageous posts. I recently reported a post elsewhere which recommended that damage be carried out in pubs. Was I unkind to the MSE poster who sent that in? So where do you draw the line? And, as I have said before, part of being nice to other MSE-ers is to have the courtesy to read previous posts.

This thread will now be closed and locked and continued here
    :)
(Divadee's closing message on the old thread).

As far as I am aware, the last thread was closed because it got rather long, like all the previous threads on PB. Certainly, Divadee did not mention closing the thread for any other reason. Her penultimate post in the last thread did not allude to any unpleasantness.
I also hope you stay on this thread (as long as you don't post any pics of you in tights - damn I hate having a good imagination) and I would miss your ever-changing sig if you left it.Dave
Thank you, but droopsnout sometimes wonders if it's worth it. However, he didn't say he was likely to leave the PB thread. That has been read into his comment that it may be more sociable in the Moneysavers Arms.

I really do think that, yes, droopsnout writes stuff which can be challenging, but, as I have said before, he takes the mickey out of himself, too (e.g., the tights episode). I'm sure that the vast majority of people are quite capable of smiling at themselves, and acknowledging with a grin the occasions when they say something a bit silly and someone takes the mick. Goodness, even President Bush did it the other day!

If you can find where droopsnout has been particularly unpleasant to newbies, please quote it here, and I will apologise on his behalf without reservation and/or explain his comments.

It may be true that people new to the thread, and who have therefore not come across droopsnout's ramblings before, sometimes may find his posts a bit eyebrow-raising. But I was always taught that before contributing to a message board, you should read ("lurk") for a good while and gauge the tone of the posts and learn about the different posters.

I'm afraid that if if the board loses its personality (and I am arrogant enough to think that Obelix, droopsnout, etc., and some other posters, do offer some personality) then it will become bland, bland, bland.

Which media personalities stick in your mind: those who offer something different, or those who simply avoid saying anything controversial? And of those who were controversial, did they ever maybe just go too far occasionally? Would that be enough of an excuse for the thought police to get rid of them? (And no, I do not have the arrogance to suggest that droopsnout, Obelix or I rank in any way in the same league as professional media personalities. I just make the analogy here).

By now most readers will have moved on to the next PB-based post (and I don't blame them!), but for those who've stuck with me so far, I thank you, and also apologise that your time has been taken up with this needless nonsense. Frankly, I as much as you can do without it.

Now where are Tuesday's new click-throughs?
