HI, I changed my Internet provider last week from Orange to 02 but have continued to use my old e mail address. Today I have tried to send an e mail and get the following message
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
If it is something to do with Orange not working anymore I dont understand why I can receive mail. Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

As you are no longer a customer of Orange, why do you expect them to allow you to use their SMTP server to forward mail to the O2 server?
Change the outgoing server to smtp.o2.co.uk Select the option that the server requires authentication with the username being your full O2 email address and password. More info on the O2 website. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
How come I can receive mail then?0

Because ISP's allow connections to their mail servers from other ISP's for receiving mail. They restrict sending to their own customers as a spam prevention measure.
I am not and never have been an Orange customer, would you expect me to be able to send e-mails thought the Orange SMTP server? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
OP, you either need to use your new o2 email address, or better still get a Googlemail address, which is independent and will be usable regardless of any change of ISP.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Your statement is incorrect and not the answer to the original question. Obviously the OP does not understand either! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It's correct if he doesn't want to route his email via Orange any more. As for your other point, I reckon 90% of the posts on this board are not answers to the original question...consider it supplementary information. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Obviously that is not the case, otherwise why would they ask? A similar problem was resolved earlier today here.
The two options that you gave are not the only two options! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
although I guess if not an orange customer - at some point they will close that email address down, so whilst changing just SMTP setting will solve the problem initially , better to do something longer term.
Personally I have stopped using my ISP server full stop,- you don't have to run business ( or move to hotmail / Gmail - although the latter seems fine )mainly domain sellers also offer email serviceAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

I never said they were. Hotmail is the obvious alternative to Googlemail but I happen to think the latter is much superior. Just my opinion. No free lunch, and no free laptop

You misunderstand again. There are obviously many alternative e-mail providers that could be used but the OP obviously wanted to continue to use their Orange account at the moment, possibly just until they sort themselves out. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
