How to get buyers to pay quicker
kezw
Did post this on someone else's thread yesterday but thought others might be interested.
Anyway, on all my auctions, I put underneath the description:
"The quicker you pay, the quicker I post. If you take four days to pay me, I'll wait for four days AFTER that to post."
As a result, out of my last 80 or so sales only one guy has taken longer than about 36 hours to post. Everyone seems to want their goods quick, so they pay quick.
Perhaps others might find this useful?

No offence - but i wouldn't buy from you and i always pay straight away. It makes you sound very unreasonable and i would dread to think what would happen if a problem arose. It would make me very wary of contacting you. I'm not judging you - if thats helped you then great i'm just giving you my honest opinion and i hope i haven't offended you.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

I'm with Carrie, I would not bother bidding.
Why put silly terms and conditions in your auctions which may put people off, it gives the impression of an uncertain or new seller. It is sometimes hard enough to sell on ebay, I prefer to give my auctions the best chance I can of succeeding and by keeping them as simple as possible.

Remember the buyer is number one and has a right to set the terms as long as they follow the rules and pay within the 7 days. I'm always easy on my buyers, I let them pay me when they are ready (inside 7 days) and I then add their item in my queue for going out to post.0

I wouldn't bid, your infomation for buyers would make me feel untrustworthy and that you were a bit of a *&%$"+!?. This is only my opinion, others may feel differently, but it's worth remembering you will never know how many people haven't put in a bid because of the information. Are your items reaching a lower price since you added the info?0

I would not bid either, eBay is a buyers market and bet I could find what ever your selling 20 times over and yours would put me off.
PS: I always pay instantly.Regards,
Dave

I respect all your opinions, but a lot of my items are buy it nows and I've had zero problems. It is in people's hands. If they want their goods quick, then they can pay quick. If they take their time, then that's all fine.
If you always pay instantly then what's the problem? My fb is just under 500 and at 99.8% or something along those lines.
David B - I promise you you couldn't find what I'm selling 20 times over!
Dora - Actually, I find buyers are fine with it because they know I won't mess them around with posting their items out.
It's 2-way. I know I'm getting paid quickly and FOR THEM, they know their goods will be on their way within 24 hours of them paying (if they paid quickly enough). I'm not really sure why it would put you off as a buyer, if you KNEW your items would go out within 24 hours, wouldn't that make you want to buy / pay quick?
I bought something on Saturday April 8, paid straight away and the guy still hasn't posted yet. With my terms, buyers know what they're getting, so I think it works well for them.
In any case, Dora, no I've not had any drop off in the amounts people pay. If anything, I genuinely think I'm making slightly more now than I was before.0 -
I would bid but then I always pay up straight away. If for some reason I cant pay up straight away I will always contact the seller and let them know. I usually have a note at the bottom of all my auctions asking for payment within 7 days. I dont think thats unreasonable. Then if they havn't paid after 7 days I file a NPB alert. I've only ever had to file a couple.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I agree with other posters, I'm afraid it sounds quite threatening to me, and I would be worried about how you might respond if things went wrong later.
As a teenager I worked in a number of shops where the customer was "always right" (within reason!) and I now expect that to be the case when dealing on ebay, either as a buyer or a seller.0 -
If someone pays you with a cheque and posts it staight after the auction, but it takes 4 days to get to you, then the time for it to clear (say 5 days) would you really post their item 9 days after that??
Why sellers cannot have basic terms on their listings, beats me.
All I have on mine, is - Payment within 7 days please but if for some reason this isn't possible, please email to let me know, I don't bite!
It's basic, it's clear and it is friendly.
On receiving payment, I mail to thank the buyer, then say item is on way, please email if you have any problems.
People might have snipes set up, for example on a Friday night, then not be able to reach a PC to pay until Monday morning. To expect them to wait 3 days after they have paid before you will even post the item is silly.
If it works for you, then fine, but I expect you would get a lot more bids/sales without that piece in your TOS.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I treat others how I want to be treated myself. I normally pay within 24 hours and the couple of times I didn't, I contacted them daily by email to give them updates.
It's difficult, but if I saw that I would think you were playing mind games and would worry how I would be treated if there was a problem. Remember ebay is based on trust, and your putting a wedge in by possibly making people worry wouldn't encourage me to bid.
Saying that if it works for you - I wish you the best of luck. There is no need to run outside
