Out of contract Orange Nokia 6500s-1 PAC and Unlock

I have just finished an 18 month contract with Orange on a Nokia 6500s-1. They have sent me a PAC as I want to change to 02 Pay-As-You-Go. However, I would like to unlock the mobile (for use on any network). It is not illegal and I now own the phone but I don't want to pay £20 to Orange (we parted on bad terms). I tried 4 online unlock codes but they did not work. Hence, I don't want to try a fifth (as this will hardlock it, which sounds bad).

Any advice?

Yes, just go to local mobile phone shop (independent) and they will unlock it for you within minutes.
  • I've also just finished an 18 month contract with orange, and want to unlock my 6500s. The problem is that I am abroad (in Italy) - although I'm sure there are shops like in UK that would unlock it for me, I would rather find a free code online! I have already tried a 3 attempts with 6500 codes (which haven't worked - is this because they need to be 6500s codes, which I can't find?)

    Can anyone help? Thank you!
  • What any said: bite the bullet, get your wallet out and go to a shop. I was in the same position with the same phone recently and none of the online codes worked. For a tenner it wasn't worth the hassle and the potential trashed phone (as you say, after a number of unsuccessful attempts the phone locks up anyway), which would've cost to get sorted out or replaced.

For the newer Nokia's there are no codes. No ones hacked the 'formula' to generate them.
The only option is a phone shop with the right hardware...

    No it isnt.
I have & use a Nokia 6136 which is/was on the BT network.According to everyone I spoke to,you cannot unlock these.
However,I bought a 'chip' circuit from one of these shops that sells batteries & other. It goes between the SIM & phone & unlocks the phone.
    It cost me a tenner!

Indeed, but these things 'turbo sims' and the like don't work on all phones. So you could spend a tenner and still not get an unlocked phone. Spend the same tenner in a phone shop and you will get the same phone unlocked.
