Sending eBay item to different address

Hi all... I'm just after a bit of advice about sending something I've sold on ebay.
The person who won has 0 feedback and they have asked me to send to a different address than the one they have registed on paypal. I've asked them to add the different address to paypal (only takes a few minutes) and then I will send the item.
They have replied with the following...
'I am unable to do that. If you could post the item to my friends address that would be great, you will still receive the money from paypal that means we are still covered, let me know if its ok with you or else I'm afraid we have to cancel the transaction I am sorry about this."
It's only a small amount of money (less than a fiver) but tbh I don't want to be lumbered with getting the refund from royal mail etc if the item goes
missing etc so I'm happy for them to cancel. However, If I say ok cancel the transaction, am I able to get my fees back from ebay?
Or am I being over cautious?

You're entitled to ask them to do this.
If they say they are 'unable' to add the address, then either they are unaware that it's possible, or they have a sinister reason for not being able to do it.
Either they believe you would be covered (you wouldn't be) or they're lying.

No, your right. Your only covered by paypal if you send it to the address on the paypal payment. You need to refund, they need to add the address and select that on the payment. However, your also only covered by paypal if you electronic proof of delivery, ie recorded. If you weren't going to send recorded...it doesn't make much difference if they claim non receipt.
You can request a refund of fees, but the buyer can still leave you a neg.

Thanks for the reply....
To be honest I'm inclined to ask them to cancel the transaction as I can always send a 2nd chance offer to the next highest bidder.
Will that have an adverse effect on my feedback and also will I be able to get my fees back if its cancelled?Light Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0 -

they still haven't paid me yet. It all seems just a bid odd. I tried to explain how they add another dress in paypal but they appear unwilling to do it.Light Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0 -
...The person who won has 0 feedback
...They have replied with the following...

As they may be new to ebay, they may need help in understanding just how to add another address to paypal and how easy it is.
... or perhaps they are well accustomed to ebay and know the rules hence why they've been forced to create a new ebay account."Now to trolling as a concept. .... You need to raise a NPB claim to get your fees back....Will that have an adverse effect on my feedback and also will I be able to get my fees back if its cancelled?
If the buyer responds to that claim, then they can leave any feedback they like. But they are likely to be suspended if they have zero feedback and a NPB strike, so chances are the feedback will be (able to be) removed"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Ah, if they haven't paid, that works in your favour.
You wouldn't be able to hit them with a NPB dispute if they had.My TV is broken!

That's true. If it been paid for, then just send the item to the address given by paypal, ensuring it's sent using a method offering online proof of delivery.frivolous_fay wrote: »Ah, if they haven't paid, that works in your favour.

If the buyer is really having problems, how about offering to accept payment say as an uncrossed Postal Order or via bank transfer, or even a cheque (but tell them a cheque will take at least 6 working days to clear)
If they insist they need to pay via paypal, I guess that'll also indicate they know a bit more than the average ebay newbie

They want it urgently so don't want to make any other payment other than paypal. It all seems very odd. I've now offered to send it to the other address as long as its sent via a trackable online service. Lets see what they say now. Oh and I've also explained to them how to add another address on paypal. Maybe it is all totally innocent afterall it is only a very small priced item as I said
