I'm planning on making my own wedding invites and require A0 size card to get the most out of the sheet.

My questions for you all are:

    What weight card is best?

& Where is best to get it?? (I'm after burgundy in colour - just to be difficult)

    Thanks

Phyzelda - I agree with the wife you would probably find A0 size far too un-wieldly to work with and you need to keep your cards to a size that will fit into 'standard' envelopes or the cost of the envelopes will outweigh your cards. I don't know what weight of card I use but go by feel! If it feels good it usually looks good! IYSWIM.

Wifey - will pm you about 'just right'

I was only thinking of using A0 as it cuts down on the overall wastage after cutting. As my cards are 7" x 17" as I'm making pocketfold invites.

What weight card it best? or doesn't it matter?

    Thanks again

Gosh! that's HUGE! Could you not make them smaller?

I would find a supplier first, for card of that size and the colour too, phyzelda. I'm not sure about the envelopes either, can you tell us what size they would be when folded or an idea of what they would look like and perhaps we can all chip in with ideas. There is a wealth of info lurking within all of us on here.

I agree with wife - If your cards are gonna be 7 x about 6 inches then you're gonna have a real struggle with envelopes. The stiffer the card the more difficult it will be to get crisp folds but you dom't want it all floppy either - prob 240gsm would do the job - think you need to do a trial with a scrap bit first to see if it works before you invest lol!

Plus have you thought about how you're going to cut it and what with as a sheet will be about 3feet by 3feet to start off with.

Have you got any links for pics? I started off wanting pocket fold invites when I made mine but they were too complicated to fold to look good without all the kit (that i have now :rotfl:) to do it.
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p

Thanks everyone for your input. The final size will be 7" x 5"

This is the link I've got my ideas from http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/09/27/how-to-make-your-own-pocketfold-invitations/

    Though any suggestions are welcomed

Regarding the card, my mum is a tailoress therefore we actually have cutting tables that take a roll of fabric, so are plenty big enough for card - but like you guys say its finding the supplier, so willing to change

I've made mini-make ups and i'm really happy with them

phyzelda thank you for the link, now we know what you would like as an end result. I've made something similar for when I've given money or vouchers etc. from A4 sheets that I have printed a design on. Off to search for more info, keep popping back.

phyzelda I did a quick Google and perhaps a call to a local printers might help with the size and colour as they will have trade contacts for this type and size of card. I didn't come across any retail shops that sell it. If you can find it, weigh up the cost of buying A3 in the colour of your choice against the AO size.

Just a thought, ivory with burgundy, ivory outer with an inner ivory card backed onto burgundy card stock, burgundy type face, ivory bellyband and monograms in burgundy? Like this:
