Farmers market?

On Saturday I vistited the Stratford Upon Avon farmers market.
There was a meat stall that looked very nice but no prices anywhere to be seen.
I thought I would just buy a pound of mince from the man to try.
I could not believe it when he said £6 in money for it   . I just paid and walk away not believing what I had just paid for it.
Good job I didn't ask for chops.

 Was it organic? Even if it was I think that is a lot- a very lot! Don't be afraid to say 'oh that's a bit pricy for me this week,I don't think I'll bother thanks'0

Perhaps the rest of the cow is being delivered?
My god, thats a lot of money, I think i saw somewhere else that somebody got charged a lot of money for mince from a farmers market. I suppose if you can't see a price ask before you order anything, there won't be a farmers market if they carry on with that pricing.0 -
I pay £5.99 for a kilo of organic beef mince'You can't change the past, you can only change the future' Gary Boulet.

hmm - not been to a farmers market for a while but I have found them to be very expensive in the past which is why I don't make an effort to go. I think the moral of the story is to ask before you buy if there are no prices. (In fact, if there were no prices it is little wonder as at these prices he would never sell anything).0

I agree with lily the pink....they are way too expensive.
i find this a real moral dilemma for me, cos it goes through me to buy meat from the supermarkets...knowing they arent kept/slaughtered in particularly humane conditions and that the supermarket makes such a huge profit whislt the farmer struggles, but buying from the butcher/farmers market is just too expensive to justify!
im surprised at the butchers really......and after this morning i just cant afford to shop there any more - i bought half a pound of steak mince - £1.86!! and four small chicken thighs - £1.84!!! and they have to feed 5 of us!
sad, but for now (unless i win the lottery) i will have to buy at supermarkets.wading through the treacle of life!
debt 2016 = £21,000. debt 2021 = £0!!!!0 -
At my local market you can get 3lbs of top quality mince for 3.99. The real butchers (award winning cumberland sausage - just won best in the UK!) is about 2.50 for a pound of sausage but that does us 2 meals and is all organic and, well, it's just luv-er-ly.......................
When I can't see a price displayed (not only is it breaking the law I think) but I remember the phrase "if you can't see a price it means you can't afford it"......But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
If I were you, next time they're on, I'd go back to the same stall and mention that you were charged £6 for a pound of mince... and then add "...It was only when I got home that I realised the price..... Is that your NORMAL price for a pound, because I thought it was a bit much...?
Then see what response you get....
Lets face it - you've paid now and there's very little chance of getting any money back - so I'd do this and if nothing else, it will at least let him SEE that you were aware of the high cost - even if it was afterwards.
Worst case scenario - he just won't get any more custom from you
Best case scenario - he apologises and gives you some free meat!
Good luck!!Dogs have owners, CATS have STAFF...0 -
Try going to the butchers at the start of the week, anything they have thats nearing its date mark might be on offer. Buy as much as you can and freeze it.0

It annoys me when no prices are displayed and yes it IS against the law. If you let your local trading standards dept know (contact details should be on your council website) they will most likely pay him a visit and get this rectified.0
