Hi everyone,

Well, I've decided that I need to start a diary to try and keep myself on track. I have been messing about too much.

I'm not expecting lots of responses etc, but the odd encouraging word would be gratefully recieved!

So, a bit about me.....

I live with my OH and our 3 cats and 1 greyhound in West Yorkshire. I was recently made redundant but managed to find work fairly quickly. I was only unpaid for about 4 weeks. I've just started my new job and get paid for the first time on 15th August and monthly thereafter. The job is a 6 month contract working for the local council, but there is a chance that it may continue after 26th January (when the 6 month contract finishes).

OH works full time and gets a good salary. We were able to manage for a month while I wasn't working on just his salary and my job seekers allowance, but it was difficult. Neither of us like not having any treats, but he found it especially hard as he had the pressure of being the only one bringing any money in, and has always been used to having quite a lot of spare cash.

So, debt wise, these are the numbers.....

Debt 1: OH - credit card debt, currently 0% interest £1273. OH plans to pay this off by October when the 0% interest period finishes.
Debt 2: Me - MBNA credit card, currently 0% interest. Interest free period finishes soon, but not sure exactly when. Will check statement. £7645
Debt 3: Joint - loan with Goldfish. Approx £7500 left to pay. Paying the loan off at £430.60 per month. Last payment in October 2010.
Debt 4: Me - student loan. Unsure of exact figures because not had latest statement. Will try to find out.

Income is £1800 per month take home for hubby and will be approx £1400 for me (not sure until i get my first pay slip).

I've got £950 put aside to pay off my CC in a few weeks and plan to pay off £325 per month from it each month.

Anyway, more info and planning tomorrow. I need to go to bed!

Ali xx

    Thanks guys!

Wasn't expecting any responses already, so its lovely to hear from you.

I have been checking some numbers.....
Current balance on CC was correct.
Current outstanding balance on student loan is £4948.91. I need to check that the council arrnages for deductions from my salary to keep repaying it - the last place messed it up and I didn't repay anything for 10 months.

I feel a bit better already for starting this diary and trying to regain a bit of control :j

More updates and info in a day or two....

Don't worry about student loans, they are at 0% from September. :T Just noticed you are in West Yorkshire, so am I! I love it up here, it's the place I feel most at home out of everywhere I have lived. Are you Yorkshire born and bred?

    Hi Firefox,

I've not been on for a few days, so sorry about the delay in replying. No, I'm not Yorkshire born and bred - I'm a southener really, though I married a yorkshireman last year. He says I can finally have a yorkshire passport and be a local when we've been married 10 years!

Well, moneywise, OH and I have been doing some working out this morning..... We had each been buying joint bits and pieces and have got all that straight now, and I have 'topped up' his account as he has been paying all the bills and run out of money and topped up my account as it was a little bit overdrawn (authorised ovedraft). So I have less to pay off my credit card in a weeks time (£765), but we have agreed what is far, so that's sorted.

So my plan for the next week or so......

I get paid next Friday (14th) for the first time from my new job. I'll get paid for August (£1400 ish), plus the last week of July (£350ish???).

The week of july's pay is going towards the credit card, and I will use the £765 in my ISA to pay off the credit card.

I'll also have a proper payslip to work out a realistic budget from, though tax might be a bit of an oddity until they sort my tax code out. Anyway, at least I will be a bit further on with getting sorted out.

    It's all looking up!

    Hi everyone,

I've been feeling really tired for the last few days so haven't done much in the way of moneysaving. Even had a bit of money spending last night - chinese takeaway. V naughty, but much needed.

Ok, task for today is to find the number for MBNA to try and find out when my 0% interest ends.

Also, my avon delivery has arrived so i'll be out delivering orders and collecting money later. More xmas presents sorted!
