2006 Virgin Mobile free broadband offer

  • I've just got the same letter. £15 a month for a two product bundle seemed reasonable to me! A pain to have to change but I'm not paying £18 a month for BB. (I do believe it was a 12 month offer, just assumed it got rolled over... I'm sure there were comparative bundles - BB/Mobile available at the time.)

Spoke to Virgin; it seems that the mobile and the BB side are completely different entities.

I would imagine that will hit a few customers. Wouldn't it have been nice for Virgin to offer a palatable solution having discovered this 'error'.

    Looking for recommendations...

Well, personally, considering that Virgin Mobile are due to be putting in their 'nice and simple' price changes, including introducting a minimum deduction of one minute for inclusive minutes for calls lasting less than a minute, I'm glad to get rid of my Virgin Mobile contract as well!

Reference to the Virgin Mobile price changes are nicely summarised in this thread:

  • My mum and dad are on this deal and got the letter the other week. They took out the Virgin Mobile sim only 200 mins and 500 texts for £15pm in October 06 and took out the BB in Feburary 07. Virgin held the BB until after the new year for them because they didn't have a computer at the time.

It was definately only a 12 month deal on the BB. They cancelled the phone contract with VM 12 months ago now but the BB still carried on.

I don't think they're going to get in touch with VM I think they're going to wait until they eventually get cut off before doing anything. I've told my dad to take out the O2 BB with the Quidco.
  • Just wondering if anyone is still getting their "free" broadband? Got a letter this week from Virgin claiming I owe them £30.58 and threatening the possibility of being hit with a bad credit rating should I not cough up!!

It claimed in the letter that they'd sent me a previous letter requesting the money (which is lie!) and that I hadn't responded to them.

The only previous letter I'd received off them was the one in August about them forgetting to switch us off which is the subject of this thread. In that letter they claimed that they would issue an e-bill in September and if we wanted to continue receiving the service we should pay it or if not they might cut us off.

I took out a FREE service and at no point have I agreed to pay them any money. If they're too lazy to cut me off then quiet frankly that's their problem.

Is anybody else still receiving it free or had this recent letter?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but just a warning that it may be worth checking your credit card or bank accounts.

I cancelled my Virgin ADSL broadband back in August and migrated successfully to O2. I got rid of my Virgin Mobile contract in October. I've only just had a look through my statements, and it appears that since November Virgin Media started charging my credit card for broadband that they no longer provide! (In hindsight I should have used a Direct Debit and cancelled it when I left Virgin.)

Anyway just a heads-up... I'll be contacting Virgin Media about this tomorrow and see what excuse they have for this!

Just an update, it seems that the billing for the Virgin Media Broadband kicked in after I cancelled my Virgin Mobile contract but they've agreed to refund the money taken and send me a final bill to confirm.
