New o2 sim,already registered??
we gave our daughter a a phone and o2 simcard for christmas. She inserted the sim christmas morning (as you would) and there was no signal.First thought was blame the phone,so to test it I put my sim in her phone and got full signal. So then put her new sim in my phone and got the message "simcard registration failed".A call to O2 c/s this morning reveals that even though this was a brand new sealed packet simcard, the number is already registered to someone. How can they do this, obviously THEY have made 2 simcards with the same number, this leaves me £10 out of pocket as the sim was purchased from a market stall before I found through this site they could be obtained for 99p.It's not just the money,it's the fact that this sim had an easy to remember number for her that i chose from the great wad the stall had,but I'm not going to be able to prove I bought from them as it was a while ago.

Hi,
This sounds like the sim card is cloned, when you say you bought it from a market stall was it properly sealed or could it possibly have been sealled by the trader??
The Sim Card should have a sim identity number on it which O2 will be able to check against there system
Good Luck0 -
It was properly sealed and I didn't have any trouble with a couple of others i got for my wife and son.Bought over a couple of month period last summer, but decided last christmas that my daughter was too young for a phone so its been kept in the cupboard till now.Its the time factor that made me say I couldn't prove I bought it from the particular stall..O2 didn't seem unduly concerned that they had someone else registered for the number..0

I'm a bit stumped by this, hopefully someone else may be able to shed some light on this.
I like you cant understand how O2 can allocate the number to someone else when the original sim card was not connected/registered. I could see the point if the sim card has been registered but not used then they could allocate the number to someone else!0 -
We had almost the same situation today with a Vodafone sim.
Bought new sealed sim pack from genuine Vodafone store but when we called Vodafone to see about getting the number registered and getting GPRS etc enabled, it turned out that the number was already registered to another bloke.
Vodafone csa wasn't in the least concerned and just changed registration details to ours.
Was told by someone else that numbers that have been previously registered but not used for a given time are returned to the pot and re-issued to someone else. It's only when new details are registered that the old owners details are over written.
I think that the details should be deleted as a matter of course as soon as the time lapse has occurred and before the number is re-issued on a new sim. :-/Herman - MP for all!0 -

I have had some Free o2 sim cards in the past and when i went to change my number recently I thought I would try one of the sim cards and none of them would work , so I phoned o2 to be told that as they werent registered in the time started on back of pack they have been re allocated for others to use. So i sent off for some more free ones and they work perfectly. Karen xx:eek:

The sim card has expired, if they are not used within a few months o2 delete them, I had a few sim cards that was a year old and used them and done same thing, called o2 and they confirmed this.Kind Regards
