You need an invite to join Gmail.

So someone on here would send you a 'Gmail invite'

Gmail is like Hotmail, in that it's a free web based e-mail service, except it has much better functions (in my eyes anyway), for example it has loads and loads of storage, you can search your e-mails and it ties together all conversations.

The invite is that you can only sign-up if someone e-mails you, if you need an invite send me a Private Message with your e-mail address and I can send you one - same goes for anyone else.
