Basically (and thanks to TigerMatt for this):

Gmail is an email service provided by Google (Known as Google Mail in the UK) with about 2GB worth of email storage. It is a webmail type interface.

However, to register for a Google mail account you have to have an "invitation" or invite from another current member. This is what is being offered here.

If you would like an invite, send me a private message with your email address and I will send one out to you.
