Paypal: A cautionary tale

To be scrupulously fair (which I always try to be) I can now report that Paypal have finally supplied the address and email address of the firm (this after repeatedly telling me to continue to discuss my problems with this firm and repeatedly failing to make it possible for me to contact the firm).
It has been very hard work and I would rather conduct any correspondence with the company through Paypal rather than independently, but at least Paypal CS have read and responded to one of my many emails.0 -

Have returned one pair of boots to see what happens.0 -
All good advice Alex99
Wrong forum though, this should really be in the Praise/Vent/Warnings.

Well I thought the key (section 75) issue was a consumer rights matter.
As for the boots, I presume would be in breach of (at least) civil law if I were to attempt to sell something on ebay bearing a fake trademark that is registered in the UK. Paypal may be perfectly happy to do this sort of thing, but I have certain principles.0 -

Paypal don't offer credit so aren't covered by the act.As for the boots, I presume would be in breach of (at least) civil law if I were to attempt to sell something on ebay bearing a fake trademark that is registered in the UK. You purchased them from overseas and not even from the EU, so the business is not covered by any UK laws or EU laws.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Section 75 of the consumer credit act.

Exactly. That's what I've come to realize and what PP don't warn you about. PP claim to be "safer" than using your credit card, but they are not for purchases over a £100 because even though PP draws from your credit card (and so the purchase is on credit) you lose section75 protection. You purchased them from overseas and not even from the EU, so the business is not covered by any UK laws or EU laws.
I know (though I would be covered by section 75 if I had used my credit card). The point I was making, however, was that though I probably could resell the goods in the UK over ebay using PP, I would be thereby be infringing the law.0 -
i have just had a case closed by paypal and have now sent all off the information to my credit card company. i hope they can help. i think something has to be done about what paypal are doing. my case was closed at 4.54 in the morning and when i went on to my paypal account they had wiped all the information about the claim. unbelievable and very stressful. it seems to me that they are colluding with me being defrauded of a lot of money.
please report your experience to watchdog..it is a very simple process and if they get enough clear cut cases i think they will take paypal to task.
there seem to be daily clear cut cases of injustice. i just could not believe how they treated me.0 -
had a similar problem with paypal buying off dealextreme, the only way to get them to refund is say the item didnt arrive it seems, i know thats not right but its the only way they treat customers properly... (i read this somwhere else after my dealextreme problem).
when a dispute is started and then escalated to a claim it gets closed because it wasnt through ebay, for some reason they dont care if items get broken in the post or anything like that, all they care about is if the item was delivered.0 -

I very much doubt that's how Watchdog works. They have an agenda like anyone else, the main one being television entertainment. If it's "entertaining" enough then they may take it up but merely being clear cut and there being many cases isn't really enough. Just ask the people who've suffered from problems with VistaPrint awards scheme and people harrassed by TVLA, each reported to Watchdog in their hundreds possibly thousands over years."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Well said.I have never understood why people think Watchdog is some kind of Consumer organization. It's JUST TV!!0
