Hi Have searched forum but could not find a post for this.
Neice has a laptop with windows vista home basic. Auto updates downloaded updates but when it stated that it was configuring updates it then shut down and restarted, this continued in a loop!
Much about this on the net but nothing up to date! Does anyone know if there is a patch from MS yet to fix this?
Vista was preinstalled so no disc to boot from and am not sure if she made a recovery disk or not!
Any helpor ideas would be great.
Thanks

Can you get it to start in Safe Mode?
Hit F8 before Windows starts to load to access the Safe Mode option.0 -

The same loop continues in all the safe modes! May have to re-install vista from a borrowed disc?? (it is legal to do this, by the way. Well MS have told me it is).Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
Provided you can get your hands on a Vista Home Basic OEM disc you may be able to repair your current installation by following these instructions.0

Just an update as promised. Tried everything and still no joy. Passing it our it consultant at work to see what he can do!!:eek:Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0

I used to work on an IT support desk and hated it when people brought in their personal laptops for us to have a look at. I don't bring my accounts in for the finance department, or my admin and give it to a secretary.Just an update as promised. Tried everything and still no joy. this helps this thread how?
i'm an IT manager myself and I welcome anyone to bring in their IT equipment within reason. Theres nothing wrong with getting a little extra help from a fresh pair of eyes and having been in the field some number of years, i can't stand it when someone takes their IT to a shop and gets fleeced. I'd rather my friends/collegues go somewhere they can trust.
i don't think theres any need for comments such as this, especially when they;re not helpful to the original topic. On the Keyboard of Life - Always Keep a finger poised over the Esc Key! :rotfl:0 -
DCodd,
usually on most vista installations these days, using F8 to get to safe mode, there is an extra option (depending on build) - Recovery My Computer
when ive used this option, it has given me the opportunity to restore the system back to its original factory state.
may help with this one.On the Keyboard of Life - Always Keep a finger poised over the Esc Key! :rotfl:0 -
Sorry. Shall I run future comments past you? It was a direct repose to a post in the thread. How can that not be relevant?damoandclaire wrote: »this helps this thread how?

I'm glad you have the extra time available in your IT department to look at people's personal IT problems.0 -

never said that you should run your posts before anyone. i merely stated that your comments about whether you like someone taking their PC to someone at work were unwarranted and didn't help the OP original topic/question.
Its not a case of having extra time available, more often than not, I do it in my own time. there was a time when I was on a support helpdesk and my manager would tell me to look at peoples personal PC's whether I liked it or not. What I'm saying is, its good to get fresh perspective, I'm sure he woudn't have said he was taking this system into work if he wasn't allowed or thought it would be frowned upon.On the Keyboard of Life - Always Keep a finger poised over the Esc Key! :rotfl:0
