pavlovs_dog wrote:on the subject of con artists, i've had a right idiot over the weekend. he bought a really cheap PAYG mobile phone. i opened to box to check the contents were all present, and that the imei numbers corresponded. write the imei on his receipt, and sent him on his way. less than 24hrs later, he is at a local store claiming he was given an empty box. they phone up to speak to my store, as it is clear from the receipt that the box has been inspected. i confirm all was present and correct, so they tell him, sorry but no
within two hours, he comes back to our store trying to pulll the exact same scam. i pity da fool
:rotfl:
I'm so glad that I don't work in retail any more. I'd tell him exactly what he was up to. I'd advise your Store Manager of this and if this is part of a trend, I'd suggest management contact your local Police as your customer was trying to obtain a refund by deceit. Your customer's mugshot should be on CCTV as well. Worth printing it out and making the Sales staff aware.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -

lol - fear not, people are well aware of him as we have all had a good laugh at his expense
(and he's rather creepy, which makes him somewhat unmissable).
people find it hard to believe when we tell them the tricks people try to pull. some people really do seem to think that the fact we work in argos means we have no IQ. the nature of working in a big branch is that we also attract this behaviour to some extents. because it is so big, they think that we dont communicate, or they wont end up with the same person working the shift when they next come in.
as much as people like to moan, argos customer service policy is generous for the most part, and *tends* to give the customer the benefit of the doubt. this generosity often misfires, because we then get clowns like this guy who try to take the P, which is a shame because it spoils things for everyone else. i try my utmost to treat each customer with equal merit, but its hard when there are so many chancers out there, and you have to be on constant 'guard'

True - but gotta love their faces when they pull that "oh sh*t, they're not as stupid as i thought" face.
Had a frequent flyer (keeps bring back stock thats forever and a day old) in at the weekend bringing a RO game under 16 day. Checked it unused and parts all still sealed in celo bags.He had reciept from another store but it was torn off half way so the date and transaction details were missing. "ok sir there's no date so i'll just have to phone store x and check when you bought it" Spoke to store x and the moment i repeated back "so you haven't sold one for over three months" to the person on the other end the look on has face was priceless (wish i had my camera). I took pleasure in seeing him vanish out the shop.

LOL! Some think Argos is a warehouse they can just take unsold stock back to
On a slightly unrelated note, I was waiting for something at collection today and a nice grandmother with her granddaughter had brought in a Nintendogs Nintendo DS purchased at Xmas, because the top screen was not working. I noticed the staff member commenting on how the user had damaged it (Internal crack) and by the time I left the store I felt quite sorry for the grandmother, she obviously went in there genuinely thinking anything was covered under the warranty
Her daughter kept insisting she had only 'dropped it on her bed' but I think she just didn't want to own up she had broken a £100 device
