Why a caravan site? I don't quite get it, it seems really expensive! We are in the second week of a holiday in Scotland (the coast between North Berwick and Eyemouth) and spent £720 a week for a FOUR BEDROOM HOUSE. With a proper kitchen, a washing machine, and an enlosed garden. We are less than 5 minutes by car from Coldingham Sands, which is a fantastic beach. The village has a shop and two pubs. The quotes you mentioned seem really expensive in comparison, and we could have got a smaller house for £600, there are places for less than that (I use holidaylettings.co.uk usually, though I found this one somewhere else).Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

£720 for a week seems like a lot of money to me. The last caravan we stayed in had 3 bedrooms, luxury shower, dishwasher, flat screen television and DVD player. Furnishings were wonderful and the benefits of a "holiday camp" . I suppose it depends on what sort of thing you like - but when I'm paying just over £700 for a fortnight (actually works out at £358 a week) £720 seems much to much.

For us a caravan park has everything. We can get up in the morning, kids go to the kids clubs, swimming pool onsite, shop onsite, bars on site so as a family thats what i want.
Renting a house is great, if thats what suits you but many people think of what activities are close at hand for the kids.0 -

Hi Shays mum, how was your holiday?
We ended up going to Park Resorts at California Cliffs. Really nice little park, very very clean I think because probably half of it is privately owned. The entertainment wasn't great, it was purely for kids really so we ended up having a few early'ish nights, but that saved us spending money at the bar, which for a bottle of Magners, a pint of Carling and 2 cordials was £10!!! I love the area as there is so much to do, we were lucky with the weather so spent most of the week on the beach either up near the camp, in Yarmouth or in Lowestoft.
Highly recommend the place as there were no rowdy teenagers, no noisy people walking past the caravan at all hours and extremely friendly staff.
I think I'll give Wild Duck a go next year. Thanks for all the tips
